Well tonight, I managed to scratch one off my bucket list - I met and shook the hand of a character that I always thought fondly of!
Namely, Dave - that bloody good bloke from Wendys! He was at Papakura (along with some Warrior's players) and I had to say, my timing was auspicious! I turned up - and the place was crowded like the top decks of the Titanic before the band sunk beneath the waves.
Kids, teenagers and general fans of the Warriors were there to press the flesh and get posters, shirts and those little rugby balls signed.
But not me! I was there to meet the one man who has always directed me to dine at one of the finest burger joints I know.
By chance, I was in line to order (and there weren't too many people ordering - I wonder why! :shifty:) and just as I finished ordering (a chicken burger, medium sized with a small chilli) ... Dave rocks up! Large as life! He had his trademarked grin, said Hello to me and proceeded to scrub up and do some work behind the counter!
Well, I dined on my delicious repast and who should knock upon the window grinning in? My partner in crime .. DONOR with rugrats two in tow!
Before we left, we took our photos with Dave - he is a bloody good sort, with a cheery smile and that boundless energy of someone who loves what they do with a passion.
When we managed to collar him to take a piccy or two, he regales us with an amusing anecdote. How he last year, picked up 24 burgers from the Manukau branch and wrapped them into a polystyrene bin and packed it into his suitcase ... to meet up with 4 hungry kiwi lads in London. They scoffed the lot in the airport :rofl:
And to top it all off, he hands DONOR and me a complimentary card for their Bacon Avocado Muffin breakfast. :niceone: Then as a cherry on top, he confides in us of the new burger combo coming out next week ... nine strips of bacon with beef patties and accompanying condiments :drool:
With delectable visions of degustation, dancing on the edge of my dreams, I dare not durst hope to dine next week on such desirable stuff! :drool:
