Yes but it was never confirmed by the Beeb. Of course I don't know the exact wording off his contract but from what I understand there was a clause in there that said he could not identify himself as the Stig. He signed that, and got paid for his services. In other words, he entered into the contract fully aware of his responsibilities. Then he turns around and throws the toys out of the cot because the contract he signed stopped him from earning more money, and takes the BBC to court.

I hope no one buys his book.

It's been an "open secret" since he was named as a consultant to the program in the report into Hammond's jet-car crash.

Reading the pommy press, my take is that Collins wanted some fame and recognition and the $$ that go with it.

Biggest question that needs to be answered is: What colour for the new Stig? Red?

Must say I can't understand the level of feeling about the 'outing' apart from the whole scum of the earth lawyers lining their pockets further.

You are right though it kinda fits the show I guess it just feels to me like it's DONE already :)

As for loving him...what's he look like? See that's part of it too - I kinda knew the name but it didn't mean much to me therefore I don't care.

I do conceed that on this matter I will be considered a grumpy old killjoy perhaps...but I'm really just a purist...I enjoyed the shit hot driving for what it was - shit hot!

Be a good opportunity for Michael Schumacher to take up the mantle for real, lets face it the come back in F1 is looking a bit miserable, he'd be faster than that skanky Ben Collins anyway..

I think it's good that he's gone. He obviously wasn't happy, and it had the potential to sabotage the show. For a while they should have guest Stigs, who drive the fast cars then reveal themselves at the end of the show. Then one time, don't reveal.....

He's had a great run in the role and now he is using this disclosure and high profile media coverage/court case as a spring board to sell his book.

He gets the fame he's craved and the BBC can put anyone at all in the suit to keep the alias going. No need to change the colour/personality of an alias.

It's a WIN WIN situation!

I thought this was the worst kept secret for a couple of years now. I didn't think anyone really cared anymore. I sure didn't. It's part of the show. Yeah it's fun trying to guess based on driving technique, but actually guessing it is kinda like knowing what your chrissy presents are.

Did anyone see that episode where they were in Germany? The only give away that the "german stig" was a chick, was the long hair out the back of the helmet. Couldn't tell from the body shape (in saying that she was sitting the whole time).

Schuy wouldn't be able to do it anyway. He wouldn't move to Britain from Monte Carlo, he works for Merc and he's too busy doing loops around tunnels :)

That's how they need to kill off this stig, actually attempt to do it for real. That would be something to see.

Personally I think it's publicity for BBC. It seems that each Stig has about a 5 year contract then they "out" themselves. I just seems that the white stig has been around about the same as the black stig. I'm more than likely wrong though.

That sums up Top Gear since the come back after the BBC canned them a few years ago.
They got rid of all the good presenters (the ones that could drive-they went and started Fifth Gear )
And went for the lowest common denominator market with wanky camera work,hired an airfield to shoot at as they couldn't guarantee the 3 stooges could negotiate a real race track,and had "interesting" challenges such as racing a Bugatti Veyron against a pregnant snail crawling up a toilet wall.
