My local dealer wants an outstanding $126 for a clutch cable for my 02 R6 - seems a lot after looking round the net and seeing them from 10 uk pounds to $35 us dollars. Cant fnd any where else in NZ though - can anyone tell me of a good place to get this part.
Thanks...

Cables can be easily made, partcularly if you only need the "inner" and still have the sheath.
In Nelson there are lots of good mechanical engineers. Go and visit 3 at the port.
I am sure that if the first three cannot help you, that they will have told you who can.
And if I'm wrong (other than the fact I will be gob-smacked) you get to go for a ride down the port. And you get a fish lunch, and its only a 4.8769 minute ride to founders brewery.

One option would be walking...........or you could pay for a new one, or import one and wait for it and hope that its right.
Walking is good for you apparently

The local bike wrecker? The wreckers are in connection with each other and will find what you look for if it is lying on a shelf somewhere waiting for you.

Any bike shop could provide you with an aftermarket one at a fraction of that cost.

I know what your saying, Bike parts are not cheap, for old or new models. I will import anything if the cost of doing so is in my favour. (I have also done it for car parts too) Most bike shops online have secure accounts. I run an ole jap bike and import parts from a couple of places without hassle. The only thing to bear in mind is it does take time, so if you don't mind waiting, importing can save you pingers, otherwise it's a case of cough up the dough to the bike shop.

I can understand some parts being expensive as spares are not manufactured in huge amounts, and I can usually live with that - especialy for older bikes - BUT: some parts like cables are pretty generic and I think some places take advantage in pricing these parts by way to much. A simple cable should not cost $125. I will definately go down the route of having one made up at a local cable specialist. Ill let you know the price.

Online supremacy, have saved considerable amounts of money importing even with shipping added. Usually anywhere between 50-80% each thing I buy.
If you can wait, do so.

+1. My uncle owned Nelson Brake Services (sold it now) and I know they could do the job for you.

Well that depends on where you sit in relation to the law and whether we are talking about a hydraulic clutch system ... or something else ...
And only a dumb skin would admit to anything else in a forum like this ... ya don't need to ask where the policeman is ... there's quite a few cop KB members ...
I just knew you were a dumb-arse ...

Get one made, I got clutch and brake cables done for my old scooter for about $40. If you can find someone local take the old one in for them to make a new one, otherwise you should be able to supply the inner and outer measurements and get one made from that.

What exactly are you accusing me of? What can the cops do? I don't have any illegal substances anywhere on my property.
