I don't think there is a phone number, it's the PPSR website or similar. And if it's owned by me, there'll be a shitload owing on it so don't bother :)

Don't know if there is a phone number, but there is a website you can go to http://www.ppsr.govt.nz/

Or buy a carjam report for about $10 that gives you that and the ownership history as well.

A metric shitload or a good old fashioned imperial shitlaod?

Certainly used to be a phone service. Was free too.

They do TXTB4UBUY (http://www.ppsr.govt.nz/cms/searching-the-ppsr/txtb4ubuy) as well, just txt the rego to 3463 (FIND). Costs $1.

The problem you can have with this is that a crafty seller will fork out the $16 for a new set of plates, attach to the car and sometimes it can take weeks for the info to become public. Far better to track moneys owed by the VIN number of a vehicle.
