Hi was wondering if someone could help me a bit... im running Windows 2000 on a fairly old computer, and now msn messenger has suddenly stopped working for an unknown reason. I can log on to msn, but 5 seconds after, it comes up with an error message and signs me out! here's the error message:

msnmsgr.exe has generated errors and will be closed by windows. you will need to restart the program. an error log is being created.

i am currently running msn 7.0 so im wondering if that has anything to do with it (ive had no problems with it up until now)

because i am running on windows 2000, im not too sure if windows live messenger will work on my computer aswell.

please help as its really starting to irritate me :brick:

Same thing happens at my work. There's quite a few reports of the same thing on the net. I guess it's time to upgrade the work computers from Win2k. I think there may have been an update somewhere that made them not work together anymore
Messenger 7.0 is (was) the only compatible messenger with win2k. Live messenger won't work :(

at the moment i am trying to save up for a new computer, so there is hope yet, but for now, being on the old one, communicating with friends is near to impossible! wats worse is that im still on dial up so trying to download a compatible windows live messenger is a road im not willing to take unless i have to.

There are other IM programs that will allow you to communicate with your MSN messenger contacts. I think even Yahoo Messenger does these days. Or something like Trillian IM

You'll probably find the version of MSN Messenger you are using is too old. Try using a new version. It is now called Windows Live Messenger.

Windows Live messenger is shit. It causes my computer to stop responding with alarming frequency. Emesene is so much better.

I just took a look at the Emesene web site. I can't see if doing anything better than Windows Live Messenger. It doesn't see to offer any compelling reason to change that I can see.

Never had any issues with Windows Live Messenger myself.

I prefer the interface of Emesene.

Yeah, the issue here is the OLD Win2k OS. Windows Live Messenger requires XP SP2 and newer
