Hi,anybody out there got any advice on what steering dampers you might have, and if happy with it,past or present experiences.
Looking at a WER from the States at nz$521 plus p&p as an option for my mighty KDX
Cheers.

I have a rocstompa on my xcw250, they are helpfull on high speed, hard pack tracks, but not on tight tracks like woodhill, If I was to buy another damper I would get a scotts for the high speed damping circut built into it, you will not know you have a damper untill it is required, the standerd dampers cause a lot of understear, because they are active 24/7, the high speed dampers only kick in when needed.

I know its not really what you asked, but im sort of gleaning this from the context, but I would imagine a better upgrade for the kdx would be the KX front end swap, http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/128259-Fork-upgrades-for-KDX-riders
A steering damper is probably a good idea, but im sure more people would say your better off getting your suspension working properly than spending in on a damper, if all things are equal

agreed. ive ridden with and without a steering damper, and to me it makes little difference at all, however good suspension makes a world of difference

Totally agree with last two comments about suspension needs sorting before a damper mod,i had Mark Patterson do his thing on the front and rear, and am happy enough with it,but it cant hurt to put a damper on it as well, yeah?

Since when did off-road bikes need a damper?????
Never ever used one and I can't see why you'd need to...

I've got a scotts steering damper and have done on several bikes for the last few years... won't ride without one. Makes night and day difference at speed... have done my suspension also but this damper has saved my bacon regularly. Great for cross country when you're hauling over unfamilier terrain and hit a rock/hole/stump etc, will keep your front end straight.
maybe not needed if you don't push the boundarys of speed and your suspension isn't so hot

i use one full time now, and it is one of those things if you do not try you do not know what you are missing,
the ohilins and scott's dampers are deftinatly the best, but you pay for them
i have had wer ones in teh past, they work ok, but they are much cheaper than the rest for sure,

What are they like at MX scotty? Do they feel a bit funny on the jumps?

once you are used to them you do not notice them, some tracks you run them a bit stiffer like mercer,
it just takes away the head shake and the big flicks, i have not had a big crash since i run them

I have a wer on my 06 kdx. Cant comment on its effectiveness as it was on the bike when I got it, which was about 15hs ride time ago. You will have to change the headlight to a mx number board and the front guard to a different profile. Also a bracket needs to be welded to the frame to recieve the damper linkage. You can look at my bike if you like I am in Titirangi so not far away. Those kx500 forks are tempting mmmm.

GPRs are fantastic. Had one on a twitchy road bike and it was the best $600 (used) ive ever spent on motorcycling.
Fantastic customer service too - send the unit to the US and theyll service it for free and return it...
