Right its two weeks out so time to start making plans.
I am taking the day off work on friday so was thinking of making a proper trip down to the Naki instead of just following the main ( snooze fest ) roads.
Thoughts as this stage were :scooter: :scooter: :scooter:
Main Rds to Otorohanga then Waitomo valley Rd ( sealed but great ) through to Waitomo caves and on to Waipuna Rd ( gravel ) and through to Pio Pio for gas top up.
Then through to Aria then Waitewhena Rd ( gravel )to Ohura.
On to Whangamomana ( seal & gravel ) pub for a leisurely late lunch then weather :sunny: permitting through the old Whanga Rd to Aotuhia and over the hill to Stratford.
Northern attendees whats your plan ???

My very rough plan at this stage was west coast from Tuakau on to Awakino then Kiwi road & Okau road towards Whanga. I hadn't considered doing Whanga road as we are doing that on saturday but it sounds like fun, it will mean an early start from Auckland tho to get to Whanga for say 2 ish.
I figured the Ohura roads were for the trip back on sunday.
Very open to suggestions but I am not travelling on sealed roads unless I really have to.

I was thinking along the same lines as Ian. More direct route down and an explore on the way home including the 42nd etc. Don't want to be too late getting into inglewood.
That looks like fun

Couple of roads I struggle to avoid are the Taumatamaire Rd and Kiwi Rd. :scooter: They don't take you too far out of your way :shifty:
From the Kiwi you can take the Kaka (thats not kiddy talk ok ) or flick into the Uriti valley and do the Mimi Rd.
Sometimes life is full of too many choices, best I go have a lie down

Not sure yet. Travelling with kanny, so we will be cruising whatever way, and nothing too extreme in distances or terrain. A bit of gravel, some coffee, and gawking at the scenery.
You lot play nice together, or aunty kanny will smack yo arse.

Ohura is a bit out of the way when coming back from Pipiriki.
My plan for Sunday ( once again weather depenant ) involved the 42nd traverse and the back roads into Te Kuiti via Waimiha

You're probably right about Ohura on sunday, I can be a bit optimistic at times! Sunday may well be a time and weather dependant debate.
Heading down on friday, leaving Auckland at 7.30 am I've got the following times:
At Tuakau / Onewhero at 8.30
Raglan (Te Uku) at 11.00
Awakino at 3pm (allowing for lunch at Oparau)
Inglewood at 4.00pm (straight down the highway) or via a loop down Kiwi road 5.00pm.
Unless we take a more direct or sealed route I can't see me getting to Whangamomona on friday.......and there are a couple of these roads I want to ride as I haven't been down them.
Open to suggestions!

That sounds like a pretty good route to me.
Depending on how my week goes I might be a bit ahead of you and may organise to meet you guys at Awakino or somewhere along the way.
Partially because just don't like the sound of such and early start from the shore and fighting my way through morning traffic, that is no way to start a trip I reckon.
Looking pretty likely I am going to be quiet with work, so I will be extending my trip, but will just see what the weekend brings.

So basically, we are going :
Honokiwi-Kurarau-Hauturu-Waipuna-Pomarangai-Manganui-, fuel up at Awakino, then probably over messenger, past Waitara etc to Ingles.
Maybe, if we both feel like it, will go:
Ahiti-to Whangamomana-over the saddles into Stratford. But I doubt it.
Look for us at the Awakino scoffing burgers, or at the sevo.
Departure/ETA Ingles...........fooked if I know.:sunny:

I might wait for you guys around Awakino, or maybe down Kiwi Road somewhere.
But I also might just complete the day solo, see how the day grabs me.
So do not wait for me anywhere, I will find you guys by convenience or luck.

Just a note about this....I'm not going into Raglan, meet at the Te Uku store which is on the Raglan road between the SH22 junction and the turn off to Kawhia road. I'm aiming to get there by 11 but it would be good for you guys to be there for 10.30 so if I'm early we can keep on going, I would like as much time as possible for the roads south of Kawhia.
I'm planning a food & drink stop at Oparau just after Kawhia (fuel as well) which is only 45mins from Te Uku.
So far I think I'm meeting Cary & Andy at Tuakau bridge and Gary & Dean at Te Uku, let me know if this is correct as I don't want to wait around if I don't have to.

Yeah I'll meet you at the Les Batkin Reserve (by the bridge in Tuakau). Keep in mind I'm habitually late and a slack arse but I'll be there

It really pisses farmers off if bikes travel through during lambing.

I wish this bloody wind/rain would sort itself out, or at least decide what it is going to do. I wanted to start heading south this afternoon. But this weather seems determinied to delay me.
Might see what the evening brings, as the weather for tomorrow does not look too flash either. At least this way I can get south of the motorway outside rush hour.

I came past Chris on the motorway this evening while in the car.
I think he was very focussed on dealing with the cross-wind because I pulled up alongside of him, waved, tooted the horn a couple of times, waved some more etc etc and he never so much as glanced in my direction.
Give him a poke for me will you.

I did get suitably hassaled, but still I don't remember anyone honking. Maybe you need to get a more manly horn?
Where abouts on the motorway was it?

Where abouts on the motorway was it?
Between Takanini and Papakura, just where the motorway crosses the harbour inlet. I think you were more concerned with the crosswind gusting in from the water than people in cars behaving strangely.
