"Maori Party MP Rahui Katene has called for a public apology over the treatment of a 30-strong Christchurch whanau evicted from an Earthquake Welfare Centre.
Katene said the treatment of the Mongrel Mob-linked Martin family was "disgusting".
"To say they were free-loading because they didn't pack up and leave immediately… It really is over the top.''
Katene said she had visited the family in the shelter and had seen them helping with the relief effort.
"I'll be looking at why they were turfed out and looking for an apology from the authorities, and a public one at that.''
The Martin family of Shirley were called "repulsive" by Mayor Bob Parker after they were trespassed from the Addington Welfare Centre on Friday.
Police said family members were intimidating others and they had falsely claimed their houses were uninhabitable."
There is more to the article, but I'm wondering how much of it is a genuine racial issue or whether it's a convenient "angle" for spleen venting.....

So we've got a couple of options here then;
1. They where taking advantage and got called on it. Shame
2. The politicos are now playing the 'race card' for their own purposes. shame
or
3. They where unjustly picked on because they where Maori's in the middle of a disaster.
You pays your money and takes your pick.

I don't see why the Maoris should get special treatment, just because they bust out the race card.
If the same thing happened to a group of Asians, then the 'Asian Party' would not come to the rescue. They would be out on their own with little, if any extra government support.
If that's not racism, then I don't know what is.

In times like this. It makes me wonder how one gets one thrown out of a welfare centre.
These guys must be real pricks - to actually get throw out.
To put it in another perspective, imagine a 2 year old that get banned from kindy.
Or a prisoner that gets banned from Mt Eden.
Only the creme-de-la-creme of scum can achieve such high honors

They were milking the free food and claiming their house (which also looked suspiciously like a state house) was uninhabitable.
The theiving pricks should be charged - there's plenty in Christchurch who NEED the help.
Then the lying prick was on the news saying he went to the house, but didn't know it was safe because he didn't take his reading glasses. Ignoring that the damn signs are colour-coded anyway.
Typically, the Maori party ignore the fact that these wankers were milking the system and got caught - scream "racism" loudly enough and people wont remember the transgression in the first place.

They're Maori so they're allowed to do what they want.
If they were white then it would be a different story.

Exerts from the rest of the article:
Lala Martin showed The Press through her quake-hit Gayhurst Rd home yesterday and pointed out what appeared to be sewage coming out of a drain and into her mud-pit, flooded front yard.
She was trying to keep her six children, two of whom were bottle-fed, out of the muck, but one of her babies appeared to have developed a gastric illness.
She showed The Press green inspection notices that bore Thursday's date but said it was the sanitation aspect that made her flee her home.
Grandfather Noel Martin said he left his Mongrel Mob patch in the car when they arrived at the centre.
Manawai said the first the family knew of being evicted was when police approached them.
At 1.20pm they were issued a trespass order saying they had until 2pm to move all 30 out, she said.
Manawai said she started crying immediately.
Her family had helped out at the centre and one of her 14-year-old granddaughters had been given a Civil Defence vest in recognition of all the work she did.
The family only discovered their houses had green placards on Friday and she wanted one more night in the shelter as getting 30 people mobilised was difficult.
To be honest, the first half of the article seems quite different in the light of the entire article.

We all know for a fact that the media twists everything into something that will sell advertising, so I for one am willing to reserve judgement.
Having said that, I would be very surprised if they didn't live a life of intimidating others, and just continued to do so.

I love the fact that the truth has still not been told here.
The Martins turned up on Monday night as a group of 31 individuals unwilling to be separated into smaller groups. This made finding alternative housing or housing with family, friends rather difficult and local marae were unwilling to host them.
The family took over the Welfare Centre and used stand over tactics over other residents to occupy rooms they wanted. In the evenings, adult members returned drunk or under the influence of other substances and scared other residents with their behaviour.
There was a domestic violence incident among the family on Wednesday night and the Police had to be called. At this point additional security of Police, Maori Wardens, Armourguard and the Army were stationed at the Welfare Centre. The Police issued a warning to the Martin family that their behavior was unacceptable.
Thursday afternoon HNZC and the City Council inspected all of the homes for the Martin family. They were inspected by qualified engineers and deemed safe and habitable. At 7.30pm on Thursday night the Martin family was called together and advised their homes were safe and they could return to them, they were offered quake counselling support and other services to help in that transition. They refused to leave and stated it was their legal right to remain. The Police then consulted Crown Law for an opinion on removal under the Trespass Act.
Friday morning the Martin Family was again called together, They advised they only trusted the opoinion of The Red Cross over the safety of their homes. The Red Cross confirmed to them that the homes were safe and they could return. The Martin family again refused to leave the Welfare Centre. At 10.30am the Police issued the Martin Family with a trespass notice and gave the family 20 minutes to collect their possessions and leave.
ALL families at the Welfare Centre are having their circumstances and homes assessed. Where homes are deemed safe and habitable, these families are ALSO being asked to leave the Welfare Centre and offered the same quake counselling support and transition services.
This is NOT a race issue. It is an issue of one extended family over staying their welcome and abusing the generosity of volunteers and the assistance available to people in REAL emergency situations."

Gee, why does all this not surprise me?
Another bunch of leeching effwit bludgers dragging down Maori who work hard, don't get into strife with the law and generally cause no problems to anyone at all..

A Mongrel Mob family from a green-carded house, who were intimidating welfare centre volunteer workers and making general nuisances of themselves. The Police believed, after investigating the relevant circumstances, that they had no reason or urgent need that required them to be at the welfare centre.

... her six children, two of whom were bottle-fed,
One can only guess at what type of bottle was being used. Beer, wine or spirits?
Bloody disgusting when genuine homeless people needed a roof over their heads.

agree with ya scummy.
also, regardless of what the press say, or what the family themselves say, you gotta think about three things.
for a start, anyone getting kicked out of a welfare place isnt getting kicked out 'cos theyre black', thered have to be a pretty significant reason for it, just look at the welfare state our country has become, how easily and willingly we let people bludge the system etc, you really think that same system would allow the unfair and unreasonable ejection of a family from an emergency relief centre in the middle on an emergency? ah, fuck no.
secondly there mongrel mob scumbag fucktards. you join a group of wankers like that and you know you are getting a label, but its a label you CHOOSE to wear when you join. So that wasnt going to work in their favour, but thats their own damned fault. you dont join the mongrel mob because you are an angel that goes to church and is a shoe-in to heaven, for fuck sakes think about it.

mongrel mob shouldve been allowed in the welfare centre in the first place.
If i was one of the poor souls in the welfare centre and saw those fuckers come in, with a 30 strong entourage of other freeloaders id be pretty fucked off.
thats why id probably stay at a motel...

I wonder if it was racism when the Marae turned them away?
Fuckers should've gone and stayed with the bros at a pad, or does "looking after one's own" not count when there's bludging to be done?

What surprises me the most is how stupid the Maori party are. If you told them Hitler was part Maori they'd make a stand that the Jews should apologise for cranking up his gas bill.
& like the thing with Sharpels the other day.
Can you imagine Bill English complaining that those poor Satans Slaves were being hard done by the Police & it was their customary right to rape, sell drug & bash people?
C'mon guys, use your noggins.

Rather than let this turn into race thing. I would like to derail the subject a little.
A certain political party has decided to put faith in a certain group of scumbags.
Do we have any proof to show that these scumbags were not scum?

I don't think of it as a Race thing. A cursory study of genetics shows there is so little difference it is silly to argue that there is.
But there are a collection of complete munters that seem to inhabit the Maori party that they can't even see the damage they are doing themselves by siding with Gangs. Gangs are there for the protection & promotion of criminal elements, simple as that. Don't think that was what most of the voters had in mind. Most of the voters for that party are most likely normal citizens like us, but they must cringe.

Ah, but there's always more to a story no matter how much is printed.
Personally I think they could have printed the facts as they stood very plainly and unemotionally and it would still have been labelled as inflammatory and stirring the great big shit pot.
Some people look for anything to bring a grievance about, other people suffer significantly more and you never hear a peep from them.

If they are so strongly Maori... then the fact that they WEREN'T at their Marae, speaks volumes to me.
They shouldn't have had to be in the centre in the first place, as generally speaking, Maori look after each other - unless of course there is a good reason for them not to - and frequently gang connections are enough for you to be turned away from Marae support. Most Marae's are revered and they don't tolerate the kind of behaviour that comes with gangs and gang affiliations.
They should have packed up and gone home as soon as the house was deemed safe.
So there is crap in the backyard, keep the kids in the front yard for now! Clean it up and deal with it. Everyone else is in the same boat! Other families are facing the same battles. Why should one family be treated any differently...?
People like this give Maori a bad name and it makes me really angry!
