A few pics of Lake Sumner track. No doubt this has been tackled by most Canterbury riders, but for those that haven't yet done it, it is a really good ride and well worth doing

I have very short youtube video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2L-jx88JAy8) of some of it up to the 'sometimes locked' gate at Loc Katrine.
That website is quite impressive with the depth of the reports, photos etc.
Going to be checking it out more when it's officially launched in February 2011

Thanks for the kind words on the site guys ;)
I switch over to working on that site full-time at the end of this year so there will be RR's the length of NZ, and plenty of them :niceone:

If I win lottery before then and manage to sell the kids and put the wife out to work (scheeze I hope she never sees this!) I will come along and take notes / photos for you if you like

Myself and a few other guys did this ride last summer. Despite having organised the gate lock the combination prior to the ride, we couldn't get the gate unlocked, so had to go round. Sandlfies at Sumner are a killer. Great road in, though.

Sounds good mate, you'd be more than welcome, however if your wife gets wind of this you may find it hard to take notes with broken limbs

That gate padlock has been a temperamental thing for years now, it catches heaps of people out. As for the sandflies, hell yeah they can be fierce, insect replant is a must. Local stories tell of sandflies so big they pick up small children and fly away with them

Oh shit yeah, it's a great ride . There are some quite big dips in the track but quite 'rounded" so it's a bit of a roller coaster ride. Was mostly dry when we were there apart from the one mud hole that I just had to find.
Also, as long as you're down there, go over to Westport, up to Denniston then the Denniston track back to iron bridge.
