Not bad.

But check out the latest Cycle world mag for a really cool drag racing bike/story.

A twin engined Triumph running 8.74 @ 175mph back in 1971!

They also have a fantastic picture of it doing an awesome burnout and wheelie at massive speed!

I was just about to post that!!
Boris Murray. And it wasn't really a burnout as such, they all used to smoke the tyre down the strip (running 4 inch tyres and no slider clutch)

Tiny pic, can't find better

That is by far the coolest pic I have ever seen.

I thought Eddie Lawson getting sideways in black and white was cool. But this..

This is something else..

Those records are over a year old. Athol's gone quicker this year again and even quicker on the Westy Island.

Here's a nice pic of him running out of strip :)218705

What time did you do Kev ? Connet RD strip was only an 8th not a 1/4 , had my GSXR there once cleaned up , . Didn't even get out of 3rd gear wheel spun it from start out through the end . Nothing like do the flying down Glen road out round the coast . Chris Meads had his GSX 1135 there & bet my 179MPH flying but did a 9.95 standing which I believe was the fastest for the day there to . LOL Remember taking the door of the Timing caravan at Frankley Rd Drags one year on my Road kitted YZ490 great fun 1/4 mile wheelie drags then would come back to the start & do feet up burnouts around the start line till I lost control & bounced of the caravan abit drunk by then Heehehe . Are those where the days !!

Connett Rd was originally run as 3/16th & later reduced to 1/8th when the new street drags regs came in. My best was 7.02 @ 117.7mph on stock gearing. I didn't do a lot of runs there as I was the area steward for the events from when we ran it on Dehavalind drive back towards Robert Mongs (about 1982) until 2001.

Ray Petterson was always my hero , i was present when he broke the record at Thunder Park.

Excert from a drag racing page...
On February 24, 1980 at Thunderpark, Hastings, Ray made more history by recording the first motorcycle 8 second pass in New Zealand, with an 8.756 second run at 159.01 mph. Ray eventually had personal bests of 8.463 sec and 166.66 mph in 1981, before retiring from dragbike racing. His records were not broken until 1991.
