"In 2008, the single cylinder F650GS was discontinued and replaced by an all-new design featuring a 798 cc, parallel twin engine. Intended as a new-generation replacement for the old bikes, the new motorcycle has retained the same F650GS model name, despite the fact that it has a larger engine."

Anyone know why? It retains the "F650 GS" decal, even though a quick glance down the forks reveal stickers specifying "F800" on parts... it's really quite bizarre. Would this make finding parts for it equally confusing?

what's the difference between the 798cc "F650GS" and the F800?

Had me horribly confused when they came out, I thought all the magazines proof readers were dyslexic.

Yep the BMW 335i I drove came to mind.
Anyone would think it stood for 3.5L.......but its only a 3L (.....twin-turbo)

that's what the dealer said. but the reverse applies in this case since it looks like you're on a 650, which is hardly dignified because you look like a muppet for paying exorbitant ACC for want of an extra 50cc (when you actually have 798cc!!!)

The single f650 stopped in 2007 never to be made again thus the new twin F650gs.
The twin F650gs is detuned and with the help of your dealer can be retuned back up to 800. Something to do with learner class bikes in some countrys.
Now with public outcry to bring back the single 650, which they did for 2009, they now had to call it something other than an F so it is from 2009 onwards a G650gs single.

F800 gs has more horsepower, twin disc brakes up front, 21inch front wheel, upside down forks, spoked wheels. oh and a mongrel seat. I think the seat on 650 is crap as well.
