Just use some CRC? I used grease before and it made it stick.

If you're still using your original cable, you'll notice a huge difference if you chuck on a new one... silky smooothness that no lube can deliver........ Otherwise...CRC.....

not sure if you mean throttle cable or grip throttle tube on your bars. but for sure silicon spray for both.ive found CRC to go tacky and attract grit.good for most things tho.

Silicone, tube and also the housing, never used to do the housing, but seems to help a little bit. I do the tube/housing every oil change now.

How exactly do you lube the throttle cables?

you can get a cable luber which kind of crimps over the cable and you spray what every you want down it.
And yes I'm talking about the throttle tube not cable.

Cheese, I've got a can of Yamaha brand "Performance Cable Lubricant" - I think got it from Cycletreads, in a black coloured can. It's Teflon (PTFE) based and that has about the slippery-est coefficient of friction of damn near anything.
I didn't think much of it for my cables, but works real well for the throttle tube, nice dry residue that doesn't attract grit. The can seems to have heaps more carrier than teflon though (teflon being expensive), seem to have to spray a fair bit on/in.
Also I wonder if dry graphite powder might do the trick, like those little 'puffer' bottles you can get for sticky locks?
PS to others, I found chain lube not good in throttle cable. Too sticky.

I pulled my throttle apart this morning, it was full of years worth of grit and grease. Cleaned it all out, sprayed heaps of CRC down the cables, new throttle tube... and no difference at all. Still a very stiff throttle.
Any other suggestions?

Try spraying some lube down the actual throttle tube; limiting the friction between bar and throttle tube.
Also check that your throttle tube is not catching on the end of the handlebar.

Sounds like the slide might be gunked up in your carb?
Whens the last time you pulled that apart and gave it a clean....

Pass... Am still in my first year of bike ownership so learning as I go. Sounds like it could be that.
Is that an easy enough DIY job?

Pulling the carb apart is very DIY-able. Best to get a hold of the service manual for your bike if you can.
