Clutch problems

the other day i went out for a ride - started the bike and let it idle for bout 5min whil i geared up. i jumped on and rode bout 50m, gave it a bit of gas and went to change gears and found my clutch lever had instantly become useless, it was flapping about like it wasnt connected to a cable. i checked the cable and that didnt appear broken and i took the clutch cover off and the plates were almost glued together, i couldnt even pull them apart.

I havent had a chance to look into it any further as im screwed for time at the moment, but any ideas? its had about 10 hours on brand new fibres, plates and oil. i know 10 hours is prob the high end for the oil but it couldnt be that bad, could it?

if you can't feel the springs through the clutch lever you aren't activating the clutch, the stuck plates is likely a non/secondary issue.

yeah the basket was moving with the pull of the lever, but just no spring feel - and that is a good way to describe it - i couldnt feel the springs. as for oil, its got the motul 2t clutch oil so i'd hope that was ok lol. i guess im just hoping somethings not broken

baskets not sposed to move with the lever, sounds like you didn't do the nut up and stake it properly when you replaced the fibers maybe? Last owner of mine made the same mistake, took over a year to work loose though!

as bogan said given the clutch is push via the center rod from the left side of the motor across the the basket if its loose the it will push out instead of releasing as it should

part 11 pushes on 9 , 20n and 19 which in turn pushes out on part 8

yup, just got a chance to look at the bike - thats exactly what it was. thankfully the fibres and steels arent completly rooted either which is all good. im just giving everything a good clean before i put it back together - any tips on doing that nut up? all i did last time was just put the big handle (bout a foot long) on a socket and did it as tight as i could. should i do something else?

should be a washer type thing with tags on it behind the nut, fold the tags round (alternating up and down) so the nut can't vibrate loose, and yeh, tighten the fuck out of it :bleh:

number one rule if it was working properly put it back together the way you found it.

oh see that would be the logical way to go about it - but if you occaisionally leavethe odd bit here and there out, you can see what useless weight is in the bike - really im just lightening it to make it quicker lol (one washer at a time!)

hmmmm not to sure one tat one maybe just the washers on the out side of the motor

yeh I'm with barty on this one, keep you weight reduction on the outside of the motor. Even better yet keep the weight reduction away from the bike and just lay off the pies, net weight loss is probably more that way too :laugh:
