Just wanted to let You guys-n-gals know that I am getting out of bikes now probably for good.
I have been a solo rider for the past ten years & only rode with others maybe a dozen times at most, mostly since joining Kiwibiker where I’ve met some excellent people.
I have had an awesome time riding roadbikes & been lucky enough to enjoy some amazing machines.
This is a decision that I have made for myself and I feel that the time is right.
I am looking forward to new challenges & intend to make the most of those.
Bikes were never my number 1 love(pursuits-wise) & I intend to return to my biggest passion (Surfing) as I have some goals in mind. I was a serious surfer for many years & travelled to other countries surfing amazing waves, not to mention doing the NZ coastline to death. Now the sea is calling my name once again. I also intend to buy a family boat when I have the money. I’m pretty philosophical about the decision & It’ll be great to include the whole family in upcoming stuff as the kids are at the age now (2 & 5) that they can get a lot more out of things. In a way bikes have been a saviour to me sanity-wise as I’ve been able to get out of the house & clear the mind & have some excitement away from screaming kids who constantly demand attention.
I know many of You will struggle to comprehend this sort of a decision and as silly as it may sound, You will know where I’m coming from when You hear that breaks co-op song “the other side”.
It’s a return to the basics & the simple things in life & it’ll be good for the soul.
It’s all good.
All the best to You riders, I’ll move to the left when I see You coming past.
Cheers all
Dave

Dave - sad to lose another biker, but if the time is right for you then go for it. Surfing is a great past time and who knows you may want to trade in the bike for a jetski for a crack at the pipeline :Punk:

Best of luck

lol, I've already had a crack at pipeline & I'll be heading that way again in a couple years when I've built back up to it...

Good onya Dave. Fully support the path you are taking. Sounds like you are relatively young, (having a 2 & 5 year old) which gives you plenty of opportunity to spend time with your family now and even make a return to biking at a later date.
All the best, mate. :niceone:

they still beachrace in Gizzy, you might be able to do both... on the same day even.
I've been in and out of bikes for years(decades) but I've never really turned my back completely, you should buy a motoXer or something cause you'll miss it like hell.
Good luck dude

Sorry to hear you're leaving the fraternity. Hope you remember the good times when the kids are old enough to ride. Wouldn't want them to miss out on the fun. Enjoy the kids. enjoy the surfing, enjoy life. Buenos suerte amigo.

Giving up bikes is as easy as stopping smoking and I can do that 20 times a day.

DaveAll the best to you too Dave, it's been good knowing you. I knew you were a nice guy the day you offered me your gears to wear on that track day...pity they were the wrong size! When CK & I came over that day to try your leather suit on we took a peek at your brand spankin new GSXR1000 which was under a cover in your gargre...mmmm nice! That was about a year and a half ago. Since then I've met you at various track days and seen you on about 3 or 4 KB rides - to me you were always a very serious rider Dave, and that's a compliment!

You've made your reasons clear for your departure from motorcycling and if you can give it up for good you're a better man than me! :ride:

If you havn't already, please find God Dave, for He will bless you & your family's lives forever more,

Will miss your input on the KB Forums, take care out there on the waves matey! :Punk:

All the very best in surfing...

You never know thou, that one day in the future... a bike will call your name out.. and then you will be back... maybe when the kids are all grown up.
Maybe then you might get the kids into bikes as well. :ride: :ride:

Do pop into the KB site from time to time... your wisdom about bikes will still be needed by us all. :ride:

Spend that quality time with your young family as they do grow up real fast.
Take care mate and keep on smiling. :niceone:

Good luck with everything Dave. I've just started surfing this year (yet to get my own board and suit) and already know the pull it can have.

Don't let the fact you're going to be bikeless stop you from hanging around on here, hasn't stopped me or wkid1 from sticking around.

Once a biker always a biker.

Sounds like you've got new adventures to look foward to. Never write off getting a new one. When those youngin's are licence age they might decide to turn to the two wheel side, in which can "family rides" could be the perfect excuse to get a new one.

Do what you enjoy and enjoy what you do.

Take care.

Hey, Whatever is right for you, do it. Thanks for letting us know so the ultra-paranoid ones won't be saying "Where's he gone? Is it something I said?"

Dude, I was planning on following you. I want to develop the same system as you had for testing tyre preassure. As I had obviously stuffed mine up. So busy cleaning the bike forgot to check the tyre preassure. I checked them on Monday found both front and rear down 10psi :o
Dave as I said before its been great riding with you over the summer. Im sure you will enjoy getting back into surfing. I have many a fond memory myself of Waipu Cove, Piha , Kariotahi, and Ocean Beach. But I have to many hobbies already. Remember those large shadows in the waves are only dolphins.
Im sure we will catch up, I owe you a beer for the lessons.

ah yes, an accurate ass-ometer is a very useful tool to have.

Reminds me of Black Hawk Down and Eric Bana's Delta sergeant character:
Wound up Ranger's captain: "Sarn't, don't you know you're meant to safety your weapon in the mess hall?"
Eric [mock clicking his trigger finger in the air]: "This is MY safety cap'n!"
Too cool.
Soz, thread diversion alert again!

And yeh, I too should pick up some beers for you Dave

Thank You mr Suzuki, it's been a rush.

All the very best Dave - in some ways I know where you are at - its just I don't have the kid thing weighing on my mind. After summer I too thought it was time to take up other things but after 3 months away I relaise I am not ready to give up my selfish pastime & my understanding partner has realised it too.

I met you once by chance and you took off from me like a robbers dog!! Despite only the one chance meet I knew instantly you were one of the good guys.

Enjoy the surf & the special times with your family.
