Jeez that makes me feel old .. I can remember most of the models in the pics as "new releases " or "new models for this year ..." ... and now they're classics ...

fuggit ... I might have got older but at least I got faster (at riding at least ...)

It's a real nostalgia trip. The smell of the hall was commented on last year, a combination of petrol, rubber, polish and burnt two stroke oil.

I had a good look through last year and there were some seriously straight vintage Japanese machines there, many of which I had no idea existed - bloody youngsters!

There will be a Bridgestone 350 GTR in the show. It's not a tyre.

I've never even heard of such a contraption!

I've never even heard of such a contraption!

The tyre manufacturer went into motorcycle production in the mid to late 1960's. They were such good bikes that they were costing the big Japanese four in sales. The big four then colluded and put it to Bridgestone that they should get out of "our business", or we won't be buying your tyres anymore.

Amen to the Bridgestone bike industry. What could have been?

Quite a few were sold in the USA - a lot as off-roaders

Here's a link to the CJMG website. There are lots of photos of the 2009 show in the Gallery/Archives link.

If you're a fan of early Japanese bikes you'll probably enjoy the site.

There are approximately 90 bikes this year, including a few barn finds. And a new prize category in the 0-125cc class.

Yeah, this is the spirit of the two stroke era.....

The show is on this weekend. October the 16th and 17th. Some of the bikes in this show are over 40 years old. If your knowledge of the early Jappers is a bit thin, get down to the show.

Then you will probably be able to contribute to any conversation you might get involved in regarding the history of the UJM, two-strokes or ultimately, the lineage of your 2010 sport bike or cruiser.

At the very least, come and have a look at some of the bikes that had a serious impact on the British, European and American bike industries.

The CJMG had some great feedback during and after the 2009 show. So if you're on a social ride on Saturday or Sunday, why not finish off at the Papanui Club and have a look at some old Japanese metal.

It's a great way to spend an hour or two, catch up with old friends coming through the door and if you're like me, talk about the old Jappers you owned, wanted to own, borrowed then dropped  or generally lusted after.

Went today and thought it was great. The Bridgestone was great to see. Was good seeing some of the bikes that are still actively used, not just show pieces.

What he said.

I missed it again! I went to the Groynes where they had a 'take your kid fishing' day. I only saw one caught - I suspect the catch numbers were low due to the hundreds of hooks being cast into the water - it must have sounded like a war under the surface to the fish!

Here's a picture of the presentation of a cheque for $2000 to the St Johns Ambulance representatives on Saturday the 22nd of January. That being the proceeds from the Classic Japanese Bike Show held in 2010. In 2009 the Classic Japanese Motorcycle Group donated $2500 to the Burwood Hospital Spinal Unit.

What a bloody brilliant collection of pictures - and there was a Bighorn! I thought I must have been the only person to own one. (minor point - the one in your pics was an F5, mine was an F9 - one or two years later)

Thanks for your positive feedback, Pete. Christchurch has a good mix of motorcyclists of all persuasions, especially fans of the Classic Jappers.... Watch out for the next show!
