...... ass or not, there's riding for all levels here (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/99556-Laxed-out-rides)
And welcome to the site too. The LOR crew meet down at the TeRapa Tavern every Wednesday night.
Come on down and introduce yourself :)

Warr.. I think youll find hes talking about riding motox??
There are alot of tracks around but most of them are private (hd,thomas rd, glenview etc) so unless you can befriend the owners your stuck at kimmys or slaters.
Theres also the cambridge track, the one out the back or morrinsville, Oto and a couple of others (thought that doesnt really solve your problem)
Short answer is theres nowhere public to ride during the week..

the best track is whatawhata, its a $10track ride whenever. its closed at the mo as its so wet and the tracks being completly redone, but when it drys out a little its the best bet.
theres the waikeria track, bit of a haul but worth it $10
the T.A mx club track, work in progress but will be sweet when done, they let you ride whenever for $10
also the pirongia track, its pretty fucked though $10
apart from that its pretty much all about who you know, plenty of private tracks around the place

which tracks are going to be open on sat?
honda_power
29th September 2010, 08:33
waikeria track is prob the best one open this w.e, pirongia will be but will be absolute hell at the mo, and to get to it you have to ride through a stream which gets impossible to cross after heavy rain

honda_power

Drove past that track on the Pirongia straight on the weekend, got a sign on the gate, no trespassing and no motox.. Might hit Pat's on the weekend if the weather permits.

It wouldn't be much more than a K down Heddon at the top of the hill on the right.
Sign in and leave a $10 donation in the shed. The guy who owns it is Pat.
Heres the original thread http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/97949-Pics-from-Whatawhata-Mx-Track-Pats-25-04-09-New-Shit
Heaps has changed since then, all for the better. You won't find a better ride for $10.

Can you give me address for waikeria track. keen to check it out.
So where is the TA moto x club track ?
honda_power
9th October 2010, 17:55
dont know address for either off the top of my head, just where they are. ill get some addresses and contact numbers for you.
i think you have to ring ahead for the t.a one, they didnt have an honesty box or anything set up yet when i was out there last, and you have to drive through a farm to get to it. its a really basic track at this stage though, its basically a natural terrain track, its been a couple months since i have been though
you could also ring
Te Awamutu Motorcycle Club
PO Box 221
Te Awamutu
Gayle Blackwell
Ph. 07 872 5597
if you wanted to go out there this week, will prob be a week or two before i see my mate with the contact details of the farmer

I went out to Heddon Rd today and was very impressed.
Sure the tracks aren't as long as kimmy's but they were nice & groomed without any of those horrible Hard packed continous judder bars.
$10 to ride, plenty of parking, toilet & water. Some nice jumps that give you the option to either cruise or launch & also a couple of harder jumps for the better riders.
I'll be spending a lot more time out there over summer, especially as it's only 20 mins from Hamilton. :woohoo:

im gunna have to go check this place out now, i was worried that the jumps would only suit the FMX guys?

25th October 2010, 18:59
could be worth a look, how long would it take to get there from auckland?
steve_xland
25th October 2010, 19:27
The jumps are more your traditional MX style, not really FMX. Really nice flow, Although I'm sure that guys could do some nice whips. Not me though.
There was one decent rider there, the rest were beginner to average & also one female who was getting some nice air. There's a couple of steep climbs which could be tricky for absolute beginners but I didn't see anyone fal off at all.
From Auckland ... Down S.H.1,
turn right at Ngaruawahia (at the BP where you'll also see the Otorohanga turn off sign - Ngaruawahia BP is awesome for Coffee drinks etc...)
go about 20kms to Whatawhata, then turn right & head over the bridge towards Raglan,
Heddon Rd is on the right about 5 mins down Whatawhata Road.
About 1.5 hours total from Auck.
It's a bit of a hike from Auckland and I think you may have better paces closer, but for us in Hamilton area it is awesome to have anything like this so close.
Main track has about 4 different layout options so each lap you can take a slightly different course to keep it interesting.
There is a nice little double & a single straight after which I saw one guy make a nice triple jump.
Check the link seen earlier in this thread for photos.
I was looking for the giant Gorse jump but it was nowehere to be found. Maybe it was out of the main area.
honda_power
25th October 2010, 20:47
was out there saturday, tracks in good cond at the mo. very busy day, at least 25 people.
flyingcr - its all been toned down now... too many injures. jumps have always been avoidable.
the triple is nasty if you get it wrong, its 4th wide on a 250, or 4th wound out preloading on a 125, it looks deceiving cause its low and long, but dont hit it any slower, coming up short really sucks due to the speed you hit it. i know a guy who broke his back coming up a fraction short.
were talking with pat (the owner) about having a bbq, beers and large group ride out there in the coming weeks with all the track locals - will be a poster up at track when its sorted. ill post up in here if any of you guys want to show up, good to meet (and race) new people!

gorse jumps gone, too many people hurt themselves, it was where the triple is now
over christmas there will be a digger there and everything will be beefed up again and changed, drainage before step up also needs to be sorted

Went out late yesty afternoon, 4pmish.
Pat was saying that Darryl King & another guy were there on Saturday & were carving it up. In his words '...F**k those guys can GO BRO!!!"
Don't understand the post above saying it's impossible out at Whatawhata, I'm no pro but manage easily around there.
I did get some footage of the track (only me riding though, not D.K.) so I'll see if I can post it on youtube soon so you can see for yourself.

I've talked to friends who have said that the track has changed quite a bit so I guess it depends on how long ago you went there. I originally heard it was pretty tough & slippery & I imagine it could get a tad slick when wet.
Dunno, check it out again, seemed pretty easy to me.
