Welcome to the first edition of the MAG RAG, the means by which we will keep you up to date with what we have been doing, what we are planning to do and what you can do to help us.

Well, what an amazing response we have received to our website launch www.mag-nz.org, with memberships coming in thick and fast. Make sure to befriend us on Facebook, you can even follow us on Twitter. It is obvious to us that MAG-NZ is filling a gap in the market of biker representation in NZ. Thank you for support. The feedback we are receiving is all positive, and is coming from around the world.

There is a huge amount of work going on behind the scenes, polishing the website, and planning our “Official launch” on October 3rd. We have our first fun-draiser planned for November, emphasis on fun, with the added bonus of raising some money in support of our chosen charity, the New Zealand Spinal Trust.
Our first mainland group has been established with a group of members getting together in Christchurch and will launch with Auckland on October 3rd.
We have badges ordered :D and we hope to have them available for sale at our launch, the price will be $10 each.

Important dates:

Once the official part is over we have been invited to Pukekohe Raceway where Auckland Motorcycle Club AMCC is holding an Advanced Rider Training track day. We will be able to observe the riders and see the training taking place. We will not be allowed onto the track on the day though.

November 5th/6th/7th

TAUPO – Set aside the weekend for our first major Charity Event – bring the family and join us for;
SHINE AND SHOW FUNDRAISER FOR NZ SPINAL TRUST

Accommodation to be arranged at www.taupoallseasons.co.nz/ which is our base for the weekend. Great facilities and reasonably priced. Book early to avoid disappointment.

Friday 5th – Make your way to Taupo, book into the motel/campground complex and relax with the group. We will be having a brief committee meeting at some stage of the evening, and then relaxing with a few quiet ones.

Saturday 6th – Bikes to be taken to the lakefront and parked. Groups will wave buckets to get donations for NZ Spinal Trust around the town, while others will collect donations at the bikes that are parked up. Return to the camp after lunch. Hand over to the NZST of the donations collected will be done mid afternoon, then we will get together for a combined BBQ and knees up. This promises to be a large amount of fun and frivolity.

Sunday 7th – Make your way home in your own time.

Hopefully our southern contingent can get something happening down there for the same weekend. We will keep you posted.

What you can do;

Apart from attending the above events we would like you to have a good read of the information here
http://www.mag-nz.org/campaigns/report-a-road

And make a real effort to take part in this. Tell everyone you know to use this link to report ANY road defect they encounter, get members of your clubs to do the same. Write a letter to your local paper advertising this link. Stop your bike, take a pic of the road and get it logged. Anne attended a meeting in Tauranga this week with ACC/Police/Industry Representatives/Motorcycle Clubs/Council representatives and they were very interested in this campaign. With your help this can be very successful.

Till next time – ride with a wise head and keep the shiny side up.

What a difference a week makes for MAG-NZ.

AUCKLAND:

The team have been working hard getting our launch event finalised. We are delighted to announce that Andrew Stroud (8 times NZ Superbike Champion) will be attending our launch in Auckland, he will be drawing our spot prizes for us. He has agreed to be interviewed so we are looking forward to that. We also have Patrick Malley (NZ Rally car champion) attending our event as well. He is offering up a “rally experience“as a spot prize for people that have signed up to join MAG-NZ. We have some live entertainment for you including the first public airing of our new Fatt Max song “Equal on the Road” a catchy little number that about sums up what we want. We have some other wonderful prizes to win including, boots, jackets, helmets, discount vouchers etc. There will be a BBQ (gold coin donation) and a coffee guy as well. Our badges will be available for sale @ $10. Make sure you get to our Compass departure points check http://www.mag-nz.org for details, or join us at Drury Performance Centre, Great South Road, Drury at 11am on October 3rd.

CHRISTCHURCH:

In Christchurch, despite all the rocking and shaking, the team have busy organising and planning. This weekend 25th/26th September sees MAG-NZ at Boys Toys at Ruapuna.

Launch day they have put together a fantastic day, starting out at Northwood Repco, where you will receive a starter pack of goodies, and finishing up at Avon City Suzuki for a BBQ (gold coin donation) and spot prize giveaways. Be sure to have your $10 available to buy our badge.

A MAG-NZ member has initiated an in school safe riding programme, that is supported by MAG-NZ, NZ Police, ACC, LTSA Approved Trainers, Golightley Insurance, Sportszone Suzuki and Motorcycling Downunder Ltd. At present risk management and policy are being formulated. We will launch this initiative early in the last term of the school year.

The last week in October sees MAG-NZ raising their flag and taking part in Biketoberfest.

WHATS NEW:

We have really fantastic news to share today. We are proud to announce we have arranged some partnerships to allow our members discounts and buyer privileges on purchases at the following places. Depot4motorcycles http://www.depot4motorcycles.co.nz in association with Cyclespot in Auckland and Repco stores nationwide have offered a 10% discount to our members. We are still working on the delivery of these discounts to our members, and will be getting cards made for you to use but in the mean time we have an application form you can complete for the Repco discount, which will be sent to every paid up member of MAG-NZ to complete and send in, if you wish to. So to be sure you receive one, please make sure your membership sub is paid. We have a policy of not divulging our member details to anyone else, so if you would like to receive this discount from Depot4motorcycles and Cyclespot please email us at feedback@mag-nz.org and we will get your details loaded. Eventually you will simply have a MAG-NZ membership card that you will produce at supporting organisations to receive your discounts.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

Do any of you remember our Auckland Christmas Card Protest ride we did last year?

http://tvnz.co.nz/politics-news/bikers- ... 5351/video

We are not happy and we are not going away! Both those statements still apply, so we are going to do it again this year – with a twist.

As most of you will be aware MAG-NZ Opposes the Motorcycle Safety Levy (MSL)
http://www.mag-nz.org/campaigns/acc

What we would like you to do is take a few minutes and write a letter, or send an email to your local MP http://www.parliament.nz/en-NZ/MPP/MPs/MPs and ask them how they feel about motorcyclists being singled out for higher ACC levies, and a Safety Levy when other road users are not. When you get a reply send it to feedback@mag-nz.org and we will make a list of naughty and nice MP’s to give our gifts of oranges and coal to this December. We will make a bit of noise and deliver the message yet again – We are not happy, and we are not going away!

The twist is we will be having a gold coin collection at the event for Aria MacDonalds family http://aria.org.nz/ Media coverage will be a given for this event. So get pen to paper or fingers to keyboard and ask the question, let us know the answer and then join us for a bit of Christmas frivolity in December playing Santa.

Speaking of feedback, I would like to thank everyone that took the time to contact us after the first MAG-Rag went out; we gained some positive feedback and potential contacts to further our cause. We encourage you to continue to keep in touch as we will with you. If you don’t hear from us again before Sunday, ride with a wise head and we look forward to meeting you on October 3rd at 11am.
