I have a Firebolt XB9R. For some reason, when going along a motorway, just cruising, it suddenly starts coughing and burping like he is running out of gas. It started doing it about 2 years ago then stopped, and hasnt done it since..... until yesterday.....
Its very annoying. I had it seen to 2 years ago and it seemed to fix it.... briefly. But a $1000 and 2 years later I still have the same problem....
Can anyone shed some light?
My partner thought it might be a venting problem but that isnt the case......

$1000??? Yikes you must be kidding.
hey there is not a lot that can go wrong with these bikes that can't be easily diagnosed.
My first thought would be the O2 sensor or the engine temperature sensor...real cheapo parts and lets face it...things wear out!
I would also be suspicious of the O-ring seals, but really the first thing to do is to put it on a diagnostic machine and that will tell ya if things are returning to normal on startup and which readings are way out...
Unfotyunately KTL does not have the diagnostic machine you will need but Triplezee does and he is GOOD at this sort of thing, owns a Buell himself.
Don't waste your time with AMPS...

Guess: Needs TPS reset.
It has a throttle position sensor that needs occasional re-calibration. 15 minute job - with the right computer.

Yeah thats what I said except cos I'm a girl I wasn't that concise LOL!
hahahahaha
And yep I reckon the throttle position sensor isn't resetting itsel (good point, I forgot about that one!)
BTW my X1 did the same thing and I actually needed a new TPS. Once again, its a cheapo part. Don't go thru a dealer.

+1...check the battery as well. They can cause a multitude of problems, mess with ECU's etc.

Another 1+ for Triplezee. He's the man!
What did the last $1,000 invoice say was wrong ?
May be worth gioving it a read and passing a copy to the new mechanic.
That's if you want to save paying for the diagnosis again

No need to pay for a TPS reset..find some one local with ECM spy to do it for you....
just as it happens i have it, if you wanna come for a ride to Snells Beach. i can do a reset and won't cost ya anything..
Its worth getting ECm spy just to do the TPS reset, along with fault finding.
What sort of revs is it happening?.
I just went thru mine runiing on one cyl intermitantly...
spent ages fault finding, turned out to be the intake seals...man can they cause havoc when they are leaking.
I have a friends XB9SX down stairs at the mo,have stripped it down to do the rings.
Man these XB's are a bitch to work on compared to a tuber....
