What are your views on these stylish old cars. Aside from the fact they are cages, has anyone heard anything negative about them at all?

Rumour has it that they are... (sharp intake of breath)...

Beautiful cars. Quite possibly one of the top 5 sexiest cars ever made IMO. I've always fancied them since I first saw one years ago and then again in the film Day of the Jackel. Timeless looking machine, and a work of art.

Shame they rot like a gangrenous turnip and handle like a bag of angry walnuts.

Roof leaks, suspension can fail, hydraulic (brakes, gears, suspension, steering) spheres prone to failing - and a bastard to find a replacment by all accounts.

But if you can find one that's been looked after buy it quick sharp. It'll be worth a fortune before too long, and if you find one that's survived this long you're onto a winner IMHO.

I would buy one if I was allowed. But Ms Biff insists the kids get fed and clothed. Bloody wimmin.

Is that like a DS19? They were years ahead of their time....but so was Flash Gordon - you need a special hat to drive a Citroen you know....

I always wanted a Light 15....then I drove one....another dream shattered....

What?

Hideous cars. Quite possibly one of the top five ugliest cars ever made IMO. I've never fancied them since I first saw one... :devil2:
But I have a couple of Citroen-nut friends who swear by them, even though they need lots of fixing and cost LOTS to fix. Weird.

My parents had an ID19 when I was a kid. Loved the fucken thing. The only car other than a Morgan you can drivwe on three wheels. Very economical, good touring car and fan-fucken-tastic looking.

I personally prefer the ID to the DS because I like the big single headlights but the DS have bigger motors and are a bit higher spec'd.

I used to have a couple of Citroens (BX and a GS). Neat cars, but they will keep you poor. The DS is even worse, being older and more complicated. Check for rust and hydraulic leaks. The spheres can be regassed and this needs to be doen reasonably frequently, otherwise it is replacement time ($$$)
If you can get one that has already been restored at a good price, then get one as a fun / classic car.
There is a Citroen car club on the North Shore. I used to use Roy Poole to fix mine (Papakura) and he was very good. He had a mint DS21 then (10 years ago)

I almost got a DS for nothing - the gearbox shat itself,so he took it down to the tip and left it there....THEN came and told me.By the time I got there it had no wheels - so I go to the tyre shop next door and ask if he got the wheels off the Citroen ''Yeah, they are nearly new Michelins''......'Yeah but they are metric, the tyres won't fit anything else!'......''well,DUH!,I know they are metric eh,they are 165s and I can fit them to anything!''......'It's the RIM that's metric, the tyres will only fit a Citroen!'....but I could tell he thought I was a bit crazy and walked out - next time I went to look at the DS all the windows were smashed...if only he had of told me sooner I could of gone broke fixing it up....

A failed letter in the past maybe?

The D series got good rep but despite their popularity of the time there seems to be very few on the road here now. There are lots of 15s though, and the most user-friendly ones of them have D series mechanicals grafted in.

Don't the headlights move in conjunction with the steering wheel on these beauties?

What?

Yes - an idea they swiped from Tucker
