Pretty full on race wasn't it! Gotta say...Rossi did one particular move that I think was not on. If you've got your wheel in front...you can pretty much do what you like. But at one stage when Lorenzo was clearly in front, Rossi picked his bike up and tried to run Lorenzo off the track...and that's not cool. He always makes out like "That's racing", but I bet you anything you like he'd be the first one to complain if it was done to him. Good to see him get his arse handed to him by Stoner again though.

No love lost on the track and off!!
Jorge Lorenzo
Position: 4th Time: +6.221
"This was a big battle between Valentino and I, two warriors with the killer instinct. I have to say that at some points I do not think he was completely fair, we were both on the limit but some of his moves were maybe a bit too much and he touched me and pushed me wide when I don't think it was right. We are team-mates, I am fighting for the Riders' Championship but we are both fighting for the Teams' and Manufacturers' Championship as well and we have to remember this. I am disappointed to miss the podium of course because I wanted one at Yamaha's home, but this is racing. We chose to ride with the old engine to be safe and then I wasn't getting the best feeling from the front tyre, so things weren't perfect for me, but anyway we took some good points. We are very close to getting our dream and I really hope we can do it next weekend in Sepang."
Valentino Rossi
Position: 3rd Time: +5.707
"What a great race! Of course I would have preferred to be battling for the win but anyway it was a great feeling, a real show and I want to congratulate Jorge because he was very strong and didn't give up! Unfortunately I lost time at the start when he passed me so Stoner and Dovizioso got away, and by the time I passed him again they were too far ahead. At the end I was tired and my tyre was sliding a lot, it was a bit softer than I would have liked, so I knew I was going to be in trouble but I wanted the podium so much. Jorge came back at me and we had a great battle, proper racing - I think everyone watching enjoyed it. It's been a great weekend because we expected it to be difficult but in fact we've been strong in every session and worked very well on our bike. The shoulder is okay at the moment so let's go to Malaysia and see if we can continue like this, or better!"

The meanest/hardest passing moves in the last few years interestingly have one common denominator. Val. On Lorenzo in Japan, Stoner at Laguna Seca and Gibernau, somewhere?

It's a shame Pedrosa is broken that would have spiced it up.

I dunno, I've got a bit of time for Dovi. He did pretty well at the start of the year on a bike Pedrosa just could not make work. His biggest problem is Pedrosa's manager Puig bleating in Honda's ear and Honda pandering to him/Pedrosa (ask Nicky Hayden). With Stoner no doubt altering the dynamic next year Dovi might get a bike more to his liking and be more of a force.

IMO Brave bet that one. The robot has developed that bike for the last few years and he is coming into form (or was till he bumped his shoulder). Stoner will be quick but I would imagine it will take a while to adjust to that Honda. As with Rossi he wont be totally competitive till 2012 at which time the 1000s will be around and he will win the championship and retire. Just an opinion. I have been pretty shit at picking the top three in the last few races............. and its gonna cost me in the beer dept.

It has emerged that Yamaha management spoke to Valentino Rossi after Sunday's Motegi battle and 'asked' him not to repeat his actions against team-mate Jorge Lorenzo.
Credit: Fiat Yamaha
Rossi and Lorenzo fought tooth-and-nail for third place during the final laps in Japan, with Rossi literally barging into world championship leader Lorenzo in his determination to hold onto third place.
It worked and Rossi got the position, but Lorenzo - and Yamaha - weren't happy.
This is what Lin Jarvis, managing director of motor racing at Yamaha, told Italian website GPone.com:
"After the race, Jorge came to us and asked our opinion of Rossi's behaviour during the race. There were four of us. Besides me, there was Furusawa and another two people from Yamaha.
"We, together, were in agreement with the fact that a battle like that between team-mates makes no sense. We expect our riders to race with a higher margin of safety and they were too close today.
"After that, (Masao) Furusawa went to talk to Valentino, and he asked him to adopt a different approach when racing other Yamaha riders. We made our position clear. The race was too tight and too difficult. You don't do this; especially considering the situation in the championship.
“There is no implication of wrongdoing, otherwise Race Direction would have intervened. But a rider can be very aggressive, or too aggressive. Valentino was too aggressive."

Then again if Rossi is so injured why did he risk more hurt ?
Probably why he's a champ 9 times over.

Well there's plenty of YT footage of this so called incident now and from what I saw it was hard racing and not much more.
Rossi didn't need to ride his team mate that hard given he has a championship at stake and as pointed out before Lorenzo didn't need to poke his nose in there to that extent either for the same reason but at the end of the day racing is racing and they are racers. Another good hard (really hard) battle we can all revel in.

He "guided" Gibernau off the track in 2005.
Stoner ended up in the kitty litter in 2008 after a too-close encounter with Rossi.
But the Laverty-on-Sofuoglu, bung-it-up-the-inside, fall-off-and-take-the-other-bloke's-wheels-out approach has never been his style. Rossi's ability to keep *himself* upright and more-or-less on-track during close dicing is remarkable!
Edit: Rossi ran into Melandri at Motegi or Sepang in 2005 and Melandri's ankle was skewered by his bike's footrest. Rossi had just caught Melandri, and said Melandri's early braking took him by surprise. And I believe Rossi took out Toni Elias on the opening lap of a race in 2006 or 2007.

Rossi does what he does best, pull off unreal moves, Giberneau was a girls blouse. ask Gary McCoy.
Rossi's in it for the racing. remember Biaggis move onthe 500's? that was sinister, and audacious from a young Rossi
Stoner will be interesting to watch on the Honda. Rossi will be a revelation on the red one.

I got around to watching the race last night and I can't see what the fuss is about. There was some forceful racing by both riders, that's all.

Hard racing and maybe a little bit dirty but I enjoyed watching it :sunny:
Most riders wouldn't have put up much of a fight but Rossi did and it made the race much more interesting. Rossi was on the limit but he doesn't take people out very often and in this case he beat Jorge fair an square.
Ya know in my opinion everything those two did in those last few laps was utterly stunning EXCEPT for that one barging incident which I feel was the wrong side of the line for sportsmanship. We watch racing to see tooth and nail type racing just like that.

Some of us race for that reason too......

There ya go ol son -everybody has different motivations. Regardless of result I race to win. Not "at any cost" but for me winning is the main aim. a bit of argy bargy with other riders is a bonus.

I can't wait to see Julian Simone on a GP bike, preferably a thou.
That guy has to be the most consistently fun person to watch race throughout Moto 2 and Moto GP.
My thoughts too. I doubt the electronics that the big boy bikes run would favour his style though.

Ain't nothing about Lorenzo's championship that's been given. He's more than earnt it. Rossi, Stoner and Pedrosa all biffed it and paid the price trying to beat him.
RESPECT.
Not too sure Rossi's crash comes under the 'paid the price trying to beat Lorenzo' scenario.
Sounded like it was more of an outlap/cold tyres/giving way to a rider on a hot lap scenario. Had it happened during a race fighting at the pointy end then yeah, I'd agree with you.
Never-the-less, Lorenzo will likely be World Champ very soon, which puts him in an elite group. However, has he got the 'good stuff' to become one of the Greats?

Really? I think you'll find that Rossi was trying so desperately hard to dominate every qualifying session at his home Gp that he paid the price for riding too hard on a cold tyre once he'd slowed down to let someone following him go by.
Either way...he paid the price for trying to beat Lorenzo. As did Pedrosa in the first session at Montegi, as did Stoner in two out of the first three races.

Yep. Lorenzo had them both by the balls before they crashed and broke. Sure he's just riding to bring home the bacon now... well except when he sees Rossi just dangling in front of him  but I imagine when the championships done and dusted nobody will be happier than him to just get out there and race.
And he's fucking beautiful on the bike.

Paid the price? Its called racing people fall off. Lorenzo's out there on a bike Rossi and Burgess have developed to be by all accounts 'the best bike out there'. not the fastest in a straight line. but thats what bike racing is all about huh?
People who have been in the GP scene for a few decades have said Stoner is probably the most talented out there. even when throwing up in his helment during a race. And I'll bet either of the curent honda riders would be riding the yamaha just as well as Lorenzo. and what up with Lorenzo land? some one explain? or B stick em all on a Moto2bikes.

Yeah I'm aware of that. Done a fair bit or racing/crashing myself. But I think you missed my point. And I'll agree with you (but many here won't), I've been following/watching GP races for years and years, been to many GP's, and Stoner is THE fastest guy I've ever seen on a race bike. I'd say they're all shitting themselves at the thought of him on the Honda.

Defintely they will all be thinking that next year is going to be a great year. Lorenzo will probably rate himself as the only one with a chance. but I'd love to see Rossi waste them all on the red one! that would be unbeleivable, but not inconceivable.
And maybe prove to all he is THE master of two wheels. GP titles on 3 manufacturers, oh I spilt my beer.
anyone think Hayden can be up there?
What about Spies? and just cos... Kia Kaha Colin!# 5. the honda midget gotta get one sooner or later. or are they all just pretenders to whatever Rossi leaves behind?

I just want Colin to have his moment on the top step just once before he leaves MotoGP
IMO;
We've seen Casey ride a Honda before (albeit without factory backing) in 2006 and he had flashes of brilliance usually leading to spectacular tumbles or his trademark front end washout.
I think he'll be a contender but I believe the title will come down to Pedro and Lorenzo in 11
I think Stoner will come into his own again in 2012 when the bikes revert to the monster thous again (im hesitant to believe it will be a return to the glory days due to the way electronics have such a huge part to play these days) I think put stoner on a horsepower machine like he was in 2007 and he will dominate.
Not sure how Spies is going to work in the scheme of things, my previous prediction for him was that he was just going to be another Colin Edwards and run mid pack, but he certainly has made his presence felt. Will be interesting to see if the wall in the garages at Yamaha come down and some information starts going both ways again.
I think Rossi will have his work cut out for him with no testing at the end of year (yet to be confirmed) and then a format change in 12 will give him no time settle and give the factory team the info they need to develop the bike into something he can use. (if he isn't instantly amazing on it like everyone predicts he will be.) (i'd sooner have liked to of seen him on the suzuki :D)
Lorenzo has amazing style and determination on the bike but man does he come across a twat with his after race celebrations, but i guess they are just his way of playing ming games. at any rate he earnt and deserves this years title.
