Rego expense

Just put my bike back on the road as summer is here but - ouch - the Rego stings. Worse, the woman at the desk was sure I should be paying more than the $205 or so I paid for 6 months. My bike's a 500cc and she didn't seem to realise it goes up according to engine size. But anyway, shite, it was almost that for a whole year a while back. Shouldn't the government be making biking more accessible to people to reduce fuel costs - mine does 25km/l. Anbd I usually only ride it on Sundays - bugger. Wake up NZ. No doubt they just want to raise more tax $$$ from us but methinks in the end, fewer people will rego their bikes over winter meaning they will get about the same in the end anyway.

Yeah your right,it's certainly gonna hit your pocket with the increases,but I'm not too fussed about paying it,because when I ride it always puts a huge grin on my face..

Bikes are more dangerous and I'm fairly sure that per user more of us die on them than car drivers do. Less people alive = less tax.

Less fuel usage = less tax.

Also per litre of fuel used bikes are more polluting than most cars, so it's bad for the environment too.

Your post pin points the trouble for you, at 25km/l ACC is not making enough money out of the fuel you are useing, YOU DO NOT USE ENOUGH!!!:facepalm:

yep thats what i say every time i fill up. in my situation, we have the usual 2 car family, and me bikes me toy, (commuter and get away from missus and kids on weekends). i ereckshun when you have to shell out that many spinolies each year for anything, everyone else, (insurances for example), offer for you to pay in installments. My rego costs all up are well over 1g a year.

i pay installments on my rego, worked out what it cost over a year and divided it into 50 odd weeks. pay that much each week into a seperate account, to be used when rego is due!

Seems to me that half the people on here would continue to ride their bikes if they put it up even higher. Say, why don't we just pay $1000 for 6 months then?

I'm sure that there is exactly the same weight of carbon and other chemicals in each litre of fuel used by a bike as there is in each litre of fuel used by a car.

Depends if you bring people per vehicle into the equation plus if you are comparing apples with apples (eg. 1000cc superbike solo riding would be worse than a 1.6L petrol naturally aspirated car taking 4 passengers).

I commute in Auckland where it is 1 person per fuckin' huge SUV. There is a transit lane for the Mt Wellington northbound onramp for buses, trucks, motorbikes and cars with 2 or more occupants - I can't remember the last time I saw a car in that lane. All around the city there are people transporting nothing but themselves in a tonne & a half of car, many are uneconomical cars like the Subaru turbo 4wd cars that burn 10 litres to travel 100kms. I can travel 100kms on less than 4 litres quite easily.

Bikes don't have to meet the same emissions regulations that cars do.
