Is anyone else bitching about the tar sealing strips across the motorway for about a km each way from the Aotea off/on ramps.

Their width is about the length of a kawhai with about the same friction coefficient (as a kawhai) when its whet.

Also another area thats got me twice, is the fat tar snake in the middle of the road exiting the Mt Vic tunnel heading to the airport.

Clockwork

Yep, its been noted on this forum, I believe its also been mentioned to TPTB but I doubt anything will come of it.

It's tolerable (the motorway expansion joints) if your just riding but I hope I never have to cross one of those things in the wet while breaking hard.

Haven't been a part of the tar snake, is it before or after the intersection where people head into the tunnel?

Get active and report it. DO IT officially.

What about that abismal roadworks along Aotea between the train station and the motorway. It's like riding tram tracks.

Its an absolute shocker.. I have to do the communt everyday along there - it also doesn't help when you have all the BNZ staff crossing the road in the rush hour like a bunch of suicidal lemmings.

Funny, a notice was posted asking people to stop doing that, ACC were not impressed apparently. Hasn't stopped anyone

Wrote in to council re the tar snakes (report got forwarded to LTNZ) and wrote to LTNZ (info@ltnz.govt.nz) re the tar strips on the motorway near aotea off and onn ramps.

Got given a number

wait and see if anything happens.

The motorway strips in the wet are awful, front wheel slips a couple of cm over the ones on the corner. At least we coming out of the rain season~

anyhow... heres the guts of the response...

The joints are being renewed as part of ongoing maintenance activity to replace the old joints which are gradually failing. This is an ongoing activity which we have been doing for the last three years. The joint material is a bitumen product which has high elastic qualities to allow for the movement due to temperature change and expansion of the bridge decks. Although the composite material has a stone content this does not seem to be protruding enough at the surface.

Your point that the new joint material is slippery has been noted. The NZ Transport Agency will specify texture requirements in the contract for the next batch of joints and also ask that the previously completed joints be treated retrospectively. As the joint material can only be worked in the warmer weather we will undertake the works in the coming summer.

the shit in the joins seems to be wearing out already. I've noticed more grip as the cagers are grinding it away in the daily trundle.
