I was sitting watching one news. They were talking about the heritage buildings in Christchurch... at the end of the item my kids kicked off and the news flicked to Simon, and he mumbled something about 10,000 employees that were about to not be covered by some wage covering scheme anymore. Did anyone see that bit? What was it about? 10,000 people seems a lot... I ask because I can't find it on the one news site as the story stops, just before they went to Simon... (No conspiracy, just curious as to who was getting shafted this time :))

um i don't recall hearing the bit about 10,000 people. That sure does sound like a lot huh? I did hear the bit where he said they had paid out over $8 million so far, on this scheme Which I thought that was pretty wicked!!
As sad and as devastating as it has been for the people of Canterbury friends and family everywhere..... I guess at has to come to an end eventually :(:(

It referred to those people who were getting a wage subsidy while their employer's business was closed down. They're just tightening up on those still getting it ... making sure that the need still exists. It was only for a finite period anyway.

Cheers LadyDragon... bloody kids...
Bit of a bummer for "some" of the 10,000. Insurance related perhaps :shifty:, dunno... wonder what the criteria is for deciding who's gonna lose their livelyhood and who isn't...
