Hi Everyone, looking to get my newly arrived Power Commander III fitted to the Hornet. Any advice / experience on who's best to use in Wellington.

You won't need anyone to install it for you mate, should just piggy back off your standard ecu etc, surely it came with instructions? It will probably be loaded with a 'zero' map unless you specified one for your bike. You can download maps from their website to suit your bike, or better get it dyno tuned.

Motomart have a dyno and they're a Honda dealer, so that would be a start.... :D

Take a nice ride to Tauranga and get Gary Pendleton of Dynotech to custom map it.
He is a gun at it

wellington motorcycles do have a dyno and it sure made a huge difference on my bike. only downer was that it was pretty damn pricey, but worth it in the end.

For sure it's not cheap...but we get fantastic results with it!

Cost me just over $600 for dyno tune at RRR here in Christchurch, but well worth it. No one product for $600 could net you the gains that dyno time will.

Mine cost me $200, a box of beers and a sticker for about 8 hours dyno work.
$200 for my mate who tuned it, and a box of beers and a sticker on the bike for the shop.

Was that on the Honda or the Suzuki Deano?

The Zooki - just had to put the shop's sticker on the bike for a few races.
I need one for the Repsol too after fitting the GP style (1 underseat and one low pipe) Arrows full system.
The pipes were literally glowing white after the last track day. It's ok on the road, but not when its being ridden properly on the track !!

So what's the process. Dyno / fit Power Commander / Dyno or just fit the PC and then dyno?
Any idea how much to get this done at WMC?

Costs about $450-500 at Dynotech. Gary is a known guru for top results. Fit the PC (or get Gary to do it for you), then get the dyno tune. It will feel better than a new bike. My GSX-R750 is going to be taken to Gary in the next few weeks. He's done another couple of bikes for me in the past... I can't speak highly enough of him

Wellington Motorcycles put my power commander in my Hornet and dyno tuned it a few years ago now. Wasn't cheap but certainly made a difference especially as I had changed the exhausts and it was running pretty bad before being re-tuned. I would recommend them.

Does Wellington Motorcycles do custom maps or did they just install it with an 'internet map'?
I'm looking for a place that can do custom maps.

We can do custom maps no problem at all.

Now I know that everyone else is fabulously wealthy (while I'm not) but can someone explain to me (in words of one syllable or less) why it costs several hundred dollars to set up a PC3? does the dyno cost gazillions, are the operators paid brain surgeon incomes? does it take hours and hours?, I'd really like to know.If I ever save enough money to buy a PC3 I'll download a map and go with that. I'm happy to be enlightened.

it goes like this- the owner of the business goes and spends about $30k to $50k on the machine, another $2k per m2 to house it, then he spends $10k to train a good operator. Meanwhile he pays interest on the bank loan, wages for the operator/mechanic, while he waits for you to think about hiring it, and the operator.
Because of the investment, he wants to make a reasonable margin on the investment, risk, and so on,
That will come to about $150 to $200 per hour. Demand for good service if he has a full order book will push the price up some more.
So decide how much you want your bike dyno-ed, and do it, or don't. It's called free choice.

A good dyno operator spends 4-5 hours doing a PROPER custom map on a power commander. It's not a "near enough" one, it's one for YOUR bike.
The $450-500 spend with Gary Pendleton is worth every cent. The man is a genius
