Cor Blimey,

It's Brits At The Beach in just a few days lads!

I can tell you, organizers have been very busy putting the final details together. The Union Jack Bunting is up, giving Tairua a very British feel.

The official programme is now available from various Tairua outlets, and costs $2. It's packed with information about the event and contains your voting form and entry into our “Tantalising Tairua” Prize, valued at $1000.

Just arrived this week is a very special treat. They've had their very own authentic Tairua Rock (Candy) shipped out for the festival, and of course it is Blue and White Twirl (Tairua's colours) and to prove it's authenticity, it's got Tairua Rock written right through it. At $4 it will be a fantastic momento of the first Brits At The Beach festival.

There'll be plenty of parking at the Friday Flicks, a drive in movie, on the Tairua School fields. The movie is a surprise, but rest assured, it will be the very best of British! Registered festival cars are $10 and general public $15, whatever the car or number of passengers. (Call Lynette at Tairua Info Centre on 07 864 7575 to order your ticket.) The film audio will be broadcast on 107FM so bring an FM radio with you if your car doesn't have one. The Tairua School will be fundraising via the sale of genuine British lollies and snacks through out the evening, so do make sure you treat the kids.

Music is a big part of the weekend, and there's plenty on offer, from Pipe Bands to Folk to Blues Rock.. Local groups have also organized entertainment. Dont miss the Music Hall (Lynette at Tairua Info Centre on 07 864 7575 to order your tickets – they are selling very fast), Little Britain at the Golf Club (again Lynette is the go to person) and Ska Band (Door Sales). Other events are free, and it's all in the programme!

Saturday is the big day with the Location Homes Grand Parade, registration is on Friday from 4pm at the Tairua Library, and on Saturday from 8.30am at the Tairua School, which is also the starting point of the parade.

The Location Homes Grand Parade will be led by the British High Commissioner,
Mrs Vicki Treadell, who will be chauffered through the town of Tairua in her lovely new Jaguar. They will arrive at the Britannia Financial Service Great British Fete about ten minutes later. Keep an eye out for twenty-five pre-1931 vintage British Cars, a replica McLaren racing car, and a few stunning British Hot Rods.

Please remember, there is a road block and traffic diversion in place. This is to ensure the safety of the registered entrants and general public.

The Town Crier will let you know what's going on when and where with his regular witty announcements through out the weekend.

At the Fete, the Maypole takes centre stage and we'll have a demonstration from the kids of Tairua School, aswell, we'll have over 40 stalls of food, games and entertainment for you. There will be a Merry Go Round, large inflatable toys, and many Community based stalls are at the Village Fete.

You may notice the festival will have a few other guest stars appearing . .. . hey is that Elton, nahhh . . . . .surely not! We invite you to get into the swing of the weekend and dress up in your Greatest Great British costume. It might win you a wad of dough too!

We're thrilled to announce our Queen will be gracing us with her presence. Better still, you (and your family) have the chance to get that “me & Her Majesty” photo you've always wanted, but only for an hour between 11am and Midday.

Saturday night has a super line up of entertainment at 6 venues around Tairua.

Sunday is a more relaxed affair. Start your morning with a Great British Cooked Breakfast, later we have the swinging 60's fashion parade and best costume show,
Great British Literature Readings, Mystery Drive, Big Quiz and Prizegiving.

A Classic Motorcycle Club are coming over for Sunday and two car clubs have decided to make the day their monthly Sunday Drive outing, so Sunday should also be bustling with more great cars and bikes. If you are a part of a club why not do the same on Sunday.

We will wrap the weekend up around 2pm giving participants plenty of time to get home.

The long range forecast is for one or two showers possible so it will truly be a Great British Weekend at the Beach.

Get your knotted hankies ready, grab ya Bacon Butty and a helping of Mushy Peas and have a great time.

See you at the Brits!
