Does anyone know the cheapest place to get a rear tyre like this? Budget Motorcycle Spares has quoted me $199, or $229 including fitting to the bike. Does anyone know a cheaper place for a tyre?

That IS cheap.

Cycletreads say on their site they sell the exact same tyre for $165 and they also say the RRP $166.79 http://www.cycletreads.co.nz/products/528-pirelli_road_sport/2172-pirelli_sport_demon.aspx (excluding fitting). Too bad it's not in Christchurch.

I paid $180 for the same tyre, 4 years ago. I suppose I could have gone to Ak and got it cheaper though.

With Don at Cycletreads being shut due to the shake you may be a bit limited. Norjos, Hamptons & Sportzone do tyres - get on the blower for a price I guess - make sure you ask for a fitted and balanced tyre price. Some quote the tyre then add on fitting etc.

Plus you could get it cheaper if you take the wheel in.

What did you end up doing Smoke? I am going to need the same size tyre soon, and it will probably either be a sports demon or a dunlop gt501

I couldn't find one cheap enough so I'm just riding around on the old rooted tyre till I can scrape up the cash for a new one.

You could see what Just Motorcycles would charge you. (You've probably already tried them though)

try them again bro, I just bought a set of sports demons, it cost me 180 for the rear, add another 25 if you want them to fit and balance it too. they will take 10 bucks off if you take in just the wheel.

they are on 'special' at the moment i think

I don't have the equipment to jack the bike up properly, I'll just take the whole bike in when I get the money. I've been really happy with my Sport Demons, they seem to have plenty of grip for a 250.

Is it safe to use a scissor jack to lift it then use axle stands to hold it?

If I want to lift the front wheel then the sump might be a good spot to hold it as it's quite big and flat, as for the back wheel...
