So heres how the story goes....
I purchased a ducati single swingarm stand off trademe from Bay City Motorcycles in Tauranga, cost $100 + $20 freight, recieved the stand and eagerly put my bike on it only to find that the bike leant to the side oposite the stand, checking with others that had this genuine stand they tell me she should be steady as a rock but this one is anything but, so.....
emailed the seller BCMC and got an agressive and nasty email so after i missed his call i called him straight back only to be verbally abused by the owner, called "A dick" and hung up on..... so next i email him very calmly explaining he can't treat customers that way and asking for a refund......long story short i send the stand back at my cost and after another abusive phone call and being hung up on AGAIN i get a refund of $100 only.... so i'm out $30 freight and he still recons there is nothng wrong with the stand.....even though it dosnt perform its primary purpose, to hold the bike up straight,
F**kin disgusting that the owner of a company can be so arogant and abusive and treat a customer that way!

I've found the service received from Bay City M/C under it's current ownership to be nothing short of fantastic.
If everyone stopped dealing with bike shops because of threads on KB such as this one there's be none left in business (except welly M/C coz everyone loves CFWB so much).

hey Madness you may have had great service , and thats cool but an owner who verbally abuses customers over the phone and hangs up on them deserves to be outed,
i'm just trying to give people a heads up.... but maybe my experiance was so bad because he really didnt care about my custom, hey after all i'm in the south island why should he be polite to me
i expect to be treated with the same respect as someone who walks into his shop

well the oter side of the story would be he didnt think there was anything wrong with the stand - even though i very politely suggested he put a bike on it to see for himself - and also that he didnt want to loose money on the deal but was quite happy for me to

As always with buying things online, if you need to return it for any reason, postage/freight must be covered by yourself.

I heard you installed it incorrectly.

LOL good one - nope, bit hard to install a single swingarm stand incorrectly ay,
mongo put shaft in hole.....mongo lift bike up onto stand.:)
i recon what probably happend is that at some stage in the past someone innocently sat on a bike that was on the stand putting extra stress on the stand frame, but its not about the stand, or even about the money but the fact that i was dealt with so unprofessionally, i allways recon treat others as you want to be treated, love and peace and all that stuff :)

I hear what you are saying about his conduct - but I have to ask - were you courteous and respectful despite your problem when you first approached him?

Sounds like Fair Go last week, they played audio of owner saying client was stupid etc, great PR for firm.
Did they offer another stand to try,and refund you freight to send broken stand back?Or were you pissed off and demanded money back, that may get them annoyed, usually retailer will attempt to fix it,refund is last option from their viewpoint,it means their product is rubbish and they may have aa few in stock.

yes i was polite when i talked to him, and didnt once raise my voice or abuse him
no he didn't offer to refund the freight cost, in fact i offered to go halves in the $30 freight as i thought that was pretty reasonable but he wasn't interested, at several points in the conversation i could hear him badmouthing me to someone who was standing beside him

Was the stand's pin tight when you slotted it through?
Ducati stands come with at least 2 different sized pins. Just thinking that if it was loose then it could allow it to lean the opposite way.
Either way you should not have been spoken to the way that you said you were

Wow! I have dealt with these guys quite a bit recently over some things i have'nt been happy with . I havent always been satisfied with the outcome and have had heated discussions with the owner but cant imagine him speaking like that to anyone, one of the guys from the workshop however...

Im sick of customers being wankers so if they are ill tell them. Not suggesting you are lol What was there side of the argument? How did it not hold up your bike? Was the insert not tight into the center of wheel? as in the wrong size? $100 is cheap

I'm with choppa on this one. I was working in retail last year (at Telecom, no less) and I got sick and tired of people being absolute wankers as well - they just think that they can get away with whatever the hell they want because they think that they are better than you because they are the customer. Some people are just pricks and will use anything that they can to try and get at another person to make themselves feel better.
Not saying that the OP was either - he has said that he was courteous towards them when he approached them about the problem. I guess I can understand in some instances where a store owner would be pissed at someone just seemingly being a prick because they think they are royalty, but this does not seem to be the case in this situation. Odd.

Either you caught the dude at a really bad time, or you were inadvertently being an arsehole to begin with.
If you really were polite at the start (and don't have a history together), then I'd say you were just the straw that broke the camels back - timing and all that.
90% of the time, when someone flips their lid (not the helmet kind), it's because of something that has been brewing / has happened before. You just happen to be the poor sod that cops it.
Best thing to do in these situations is explain everything you have done and ask for the retailers help in making it work. Assume you are the dumbarse who has stuffed up - even if you don't think so. That way, people do not get defensive as they are not under attack.

Hmmmmmmm I am going to take a punt and say. Nope.
I have had a Daytona 955i, full of packs, with rider and pillion sit on the official triumph one.....didn't bend an iota.
But then again that was $350, and it was purpose built by Triumph.
What the fuck did you buy for $100?
Don't you love your 748?

I'm not sure about that shop,
was looking at a few bikes there and prices were as you'd expect so asked what I'd get as a trade with my bike on a zx10r.
Offered me $1800 on my 88 FZR250 never dropped new tires with 8,000 ks on it.
Said I think its worth more than that and got told its only worth $1,500.
Told him if he can get them for $1500 I'd buy 5 right now.
Took it to shop I bought it off 10,000 k later and they traded at what I payed for it $3,500.
