The K1 has the footpegs too high up for me. I get sore legs. (And when having long-johns and the leather pants on I have problems bending my legs to get feet on to footpegs) So the idea was to move the pegs lower.
My plan was always to make up a set of side plates to replace the originals and fit a set of front footpegs lower down on them, thereby leaving the original bits intact so that the bike can be converted back to original if I, or someone else, in the future feels the need.
Over a beer I was sitting looking at the original setup and wondered if I could lower the pegs temporarily to get a feel of how far down I need them. I realised that by fitting long bolts I could drop the fotpegs below their fittings making the setup approx 4cm lower. Good start I figured.
The result is in the pics. I took her for a test ride and it feels good!
But knowing my self I have a feeling that this temp fix will become permanent...
How bout you? Any similar temporary fixe's that you have done and you never got around to do the permanent one?

My "fix" is always temporary,....in that sooner rather then later whatever I have done will fail spectacularly and I'll either revert it back to how it was or if I have munted it with my "fix" I'll pay someone with real skills to repair it.

other way round for me, my proper fixes are often only temporary :bleh: not cos they break, cos I realise there was a better way I could have done it. My chain roller for example, v1 bolted on to the footpeg and worked great but got a little bit of vibration in the peg under engine braking so made v2, adjustable and frame mounted, works awesome but thinking bout making v3 so it replaces the original slider block.

That's pretty much what I would have done, except for using some prettier bolts and some spacers for the original mounts. A shitload less work than making a whole new mounting plate, if it works go with it.

Since the pics I have fitted s/s capscrews with locknuts. Also included a return spring and a spacer as you suggest. But it is still a temporary fix. One day I will make those new side-plates...

All my ''fixes'' are forever - that's what gives my bikes character.I must make a new exhaust system,as my quick See If It Works system means I can't use the gut stand - but I only use the kick stand on rides, and park in the shed with the centre stand. But it works,so until I have too much spare time it will just stay on the bike. Also have a new See If It Works tail piece for the Supertrapp...one of those step downs the Boi Racers use in their cans.Looks silly, but seems to work.I will try it out on my trip to Auckland tomorrow - first meeting of the season at Rosebank.

Had no idea what a XN85 was, so managed to find this:

Rocking horse shit comes to mind.
After studying the bike a bit I conclude that our best option is to move the motor up about a foot and then fit some long bolts to the now redundant front engine mounts.
Bring a couple of doz of beer and I will clear out a spot on the backyard so we can get started. If we run outta time you can use one of my mudbugs until it is all sorted.

Wow, you DID make an effort with my request!:shit:
And so generous with the mudbug offer too, sheesh, I'm almost tempted to take you up on this offer..

Of course, with the bolt only supported at one end, putting any weight on the pegs is not a good idea, right?

True. But after all, this was just to see how far down I need to take it. Temporary being the idea here...

Haha love your fix. I had a 160cc Suzuki quad a while back but the exhaust blew out. So got a baked beans can and drilled holes in the bottom. Plus a large hose clip we were back in business, kept drilling holes out until it was nicely tuned

Mate, what you have done is quite dangerous to use!
The original design relies on the SHEAR strength of the bolt at two points, above and below the peg.
Your mod relies only on the resistance of the bolt to BENDING, which is a lot less.
You ought to go back to the plates idea, like a racers' rear-sets but lower rather than higher.
