View Full Version : Bulb or bike?

A week ago my low beam blew, so rode with high beam for a couple of days until I could get a replacement. Replaced it no dramas being careful not to touch the glass.
However, the replacement bulb worked fine for 4 days before the low beam went again, flicked it onto high, but by the time I got home (15 mins later) that had gone as well. Dud bulb or has the scoot maliciously started killing bulbs?

Had that happen with an old dirt bike, turned out to be the reg/rec.
Not saying that's what it is with yours but something to bear in mind.

Check if your tail light/brake light bulbs have blown as well, if they have it's probably the bike. Could just be vibration if there is something loose in the headlamp mounting too.
Easy check is stick a voltmeter on somewhere easy to get to, if it's over about 15V then it'll kill bulbs.

Battery getting old? On a trailie I had yonks ago, while it would run without the battery, the lights ould get brighter with engine revs until they (the bulbs) blew.
With the battery connected, no problems

Use the chart, it will tell you if the bike has a problem.

Awesome doc, wish I'd discovered that years ago.
