Has anyone had any experience importing a bike from Canada?
I'm looking at bringing in a 1981 xs1100. It's my father-in-law's bike and he said I can have it.
It'll need a bit of paint, a new exhaust and new tires I'd say from what he has advised. But it's free, so hey, why not!
I've had a look at the customs website, but really want to findout from someone who's done it before what's involved and any hidden pitfalls. Insurance, vinning, registrations, and anything else I don't know I need to know about.
Should I get the bits needed fixed in Canada first and then shipped to NZ or would it be better to ship it as a damaged vehicle and then get it sorted here then vinned and registered?
He's coming out in March and is shipping his CB750 to get around on while he's here so one option is to get it freighted in the same crate.
All advice welcome.
Stephen
