Hey all,
I've been on this forum for a while, mostly reading and learning about how to be a better rider.
Unfortunately last night by bike was stolen from outside my apartment :-(
Its a 1989 red Honda Spata VT250,
Plate number 26WUK
It has a distinct custom made tank, customer straight-through exhausts, aftermarket mirrors and fairings, polished frame and has a givi screen.
Location is on Farmhouse Lane in Saint Johns/Glen Innes.
This thing is, the bike was parked between my car and my apartment wall so would've been tricky to get it out of there (1/2m gap) - and it disappeard around midnight last night.
If anyone has seen anything suspicous around the area at the time or seen my bike at all please let me know!
Thanks, Frank

Condolences matey.
If I see anyone riding it I'll superman off my moving bike and tackle them.
I assume you've called the police and checked with your apartment complex's supervisor (cctv, suspicious people etc).

Yeah I've notified the Police, asked around. Aparently someone noticed it was already gone at 2am. And there's no cctv here unfortunately

my first thoughts were why would someone go to so much trouble to steal a spada, then I looked at the photos, that's a trick lookin bike you must be gutted.
Hope you recover it undamaged.

Hey thanks,
I couldn't understand it either - it was in a difficult location (between my car and a wall) so I have a feeling someone in one of these apartments knows something they're not telling me. And it's not like someone can just repaint the bike and keep it - its one of a kind.

It's different from the average Spada that's for sure, lot of work gone in to that. Should make it easier to spot.
Hope you get it back fella.

Spada has returned!!!!!!
Police phoned at 1:30am, said they found some kid riding it in the Tauriwa Reserve in Point England.
Left mirror and undicator was smashed, shifter bent and the fuel tank had been pried open but is otherwise good and running!! :)
Unfortunaly the kid who stole is will get a slap on the wrist at most, for being under 18

That's awesome news. Can I make a sugestion?
Go to court on the date of his appearances. Find out his name and address and post it here publicly.
Then anyone googling their name will be able to easily find out he's a bike thief. I also know some people in Auckland who've had bikes stolen and I'm sure they'd like to exact some revenge on a thief.

Dirty thieving bastard should at least be made to pay for the damage to your bike! Man, if anyone ever took mine I'd be out for blood...!
Question though, how was he riding it? Did you leave your key in the ignition or something? Or was it hot-wired...?

Yeah he hacked the ignition...and the fuel tank lid too.
I still have the orignal key but now any key/screwdriver will start it.
I got a quote to get the ignition and the fuel lid replaced with a new key...around the $900 range
To those who are interested, the address where it was recovered from was 4 Tauriwa Ave, Point England.

Argh. That sucks! Glad you got it back, but gutted to read about the damage. As has been said, that is one nice looking spada. Looks a totally different breed from my old dunga. Where did you get the custom bits from?

Make sure you supply details of the repair costs to the police and ask for reperation.
Please keep us informed. I would be interesed to know what happens to the little tow rag in due course

Glad she came back, even if she was violated.
Not sure if they will do anything re payment for damage. Some years ago a drunk driver smashed in to my car while I was out driving. I phoned the police on my mobile and kept telling them where we were while following him. They caught him and he ended up in court. Lost his licence and also his job. But nothing was done re re-paying me for the damage. Apperently that was nothing to do with them. I had to take the azzwipe to Small Claims Court, but that was a total waste of time as they have no teeth.

Agree with others, get to court if you can, and name and shame the prick.
Then have a go at small claims court for your repairs, yes they are mostly useless, but not always, some times these losers have decent parents who make them cough up.
Small trick to secure a bike, a small stubby padlock through the drill hole of the front rotor, difficult for the opportunist thief to wheel away.

$900 for ignition an fuel cap, you could buy a complete spares bike for that.
I'd say just get a disc lock and be done with it. Who cares if a screwdriver will start it, it ain't going nowhere with a disc lock.

Well I got the official quote now from Botany Honda, not as high as first thought:
$996.10, though they can no longer get an ignition barrel so will have to source a 2nd hand one if needed. And I still need a quote from a paint/panel shop to repair the paint damage from when they dropped it on each side
This would bring it up to the same condition it was originally. That's one bloody expensive joyride

Can't you claim insurance for the ignition and other damages?
That person will be responsible for paying the excess. Even if they don't end up paying, at least you won't need to pay full price to get it fix.

keep pushing the issue, as said above, the fucker might have parents that are decent enough to cover it and smack their son in the back of the head (with a frying pan) too

They are pulling a rip on the pricing, the petrol cap is very very common on many Hondas of the era, as was the ignition barrel. The fuel cap is identical to my Bros650 and my CB400. Three Allen head bolts, three dummy bolts.
CBR250 cap, the same.

Browse wemoto, get your pay out for the full and bullshit prices, buy the parts cheap and then fill a bath tub with brandy.
