I want to buy a road registered motocross bike.
Im currently looking a these two flavours..
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=302490078 TE510 05 $4500ish
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=323160761 KTM525 05 $6700ish
Now the guy selling the KTM is off to Aussie this Monday so he needs to sell by then.....
So one would think he hasn't sold it yet, I might get a good buy as the Market is truely dead ! !
Now I see both bikes above very simalar in Kms/Age and style...Problem is they are $2.2k difference in price.
What would anyone here offer the guy with the KTM ? ? ( or what would you think would be a fair price ?)
Crazy Steve.

A lot of people (particularly with vehicles on TM) have optimistic opinions of what their vehicles are worth.
It's mildly amusing to watch the same cars being listed at $10K more than they're worth month after month.....

Ok im keen on Both ! ! the Ktm more than the Te510....
And I have made a fair offer on the KTM but the seller said "IM DREAMING"
What would you think a fair price for the KTM ? ?
And do you agree that these bikes are each very close to the same spec ? ?

I know little about dirt bikes, but they both seem remarkably low km for their age - would they have had the speedos taken off for dirt riding? Or is it just that dirt bikes don't get ridden so far?
As for the price difference - you prefer the KTM yourself, so you'd presumably pay more for it. I guess it's reasonable to think that others will prefer it even more? KTM does seem to be the 'in' brand at the moment.
If you think they're close enough to the same spec, why not just buy the vastly cheaper one?

Offer $500 less than your fair offer on the KTM tonight.
Offer $500 less on Friday night.
Offer $500 less on Saturday night. If he hasn't had any other interest there is going to come a point where he either decides to keep it or offload it before Monday.
Either way, if you can find out where he lives you can go and nick it on Tuesday :shit:

never could understand this re-listing, doesnt it cast coin to re list? so after a few month,, of paying money and no one is interested because the price of ya prized dunga is way to high
one would start to realize ,,,and maybe eeer...lower the price ,,just a thought , I would say that most of trade me bikes are over priced in this economy

Same with this one (which I actually took out for a test ride but got a better deal elsewhere for a newer, lower km's machine):

When I sold my previous bike and car (both within the last 12 months), I paid a one off listing fee for each that allowed me to re-list as often as I liked at no extra cost. Re-listed the bike twice and the car once. They both sold pretty quickly, but then I wasn't expecting outrageous coin for them...

Because the cheaper one is where I see the market atm....And its in Nelson and im in Waihi...If it was closer I would have it already..But the KTM is closer so Im trying to focus on it.
I would hope the owner of the KTM sees his bike the same as the TE510...And then price his bike right.
Buy some of the comments already on this site it sounds like my offer was on the money ! !

BINGO.....Thank you Sensei ! !
I offered $5k and left the offer open untill he leaves on Monday, I told him if he gets a better offer please take it...But if he dosn't I will collect and pay this Sunday.
I know of a person on KB that brought the same bike for $7500 2years ago...And he got two sets of wheels with his (One set off road one set Motard) And a bucket load of spare parts..
Motard wheels alone would be worth $2500....So wheres this guy coming with $6700 for his bike ? ?

I still see no reason why he is a cock. Just like everyone else, he wants to get the most for it, you want to pay the least for it.
Look at it from his side he might think you are being a cock.
he will have set a high price to work backwards to get the price he wants.
Normal selling practice.
If you want it, buy it, if not go somewhere else.

The main reason he is a cock because he is damaging the second hand market, and hes wasting My and other people time listing it..
If everyone over prices there bikes on trade me how will anyone know what a fair deal is ? ?

So, basically, it seems that if a seller's estimation of value on their own bike does not line up with the price that you want to pay, they are automatically a cock?
hmmmmmm. Not sure i agree with that mentality. If you came along and offered me 2k less than my asking price on a 7k bike, id tell you to fuck off, and Id think YOU were the cock.
whether you wanna pay 7k for it is irrelevant, he wants the best sale price for it, just as you will when youre done with it and want to sell it on.
based on this post, and your comments recently in another thread, of someone who was trying to sell a bike (that you werent even interested in) Id like to request that, if you ever see me selling a bike, that you just stay away, cos I sure as hell dont wanna deal with ya!

it will either sell for 7k, or it won't. if it does, its worth 7k, if it doesnt it isnt.
there might be 5000 people who DONT think its worth 7k, but there may also be one person to whom it IS worth 7k.
what you, or I, or anyone else thinks its worth is irrelevant.
Items sell all the time for much more, or much less than they are 'worth'.
The point is crazy steve is being a fucking child, and having a tantrum like a fat kid whose been told they cant have more cake, because he isnt getting his own way.

I ALWAYS apply the one seat one bum principle to everything i sell.
Steve-In your shoes I would perhaps have waited a few days and called Mr KTM back and let him know your offer was a genuine offer to buy.
The reason being that I get about 10 e mails a day wanting to know my "best cash price" or asking me if I'll take $XXX for a vehicle. The genuine guys front up or call back

A seller has a right to ask whatever money they want for their item. I could advertise my 12 year old car with 135K on the clock on tardme for $50K if I wanted. Yes, I'd be dreaming and I'd never sell it, but it's still my prerogative. I don't understand why anyone else would get so bent out of shape over it?? If it's not a price you consider fair, then walk away. If the price you want to pay is truly fair, then sooner or later you'll find what you want at that price. If not, then you're the dreamer.
It's not rocket science, honestly.
