From a reliable source I have been informed that Waikato Road traffic police have booked accomodation for 38 officers in the Coromandel Area for this weekend.
They are operating 4 ACC Educational checkpoints for 5 hours during Sunday.

If you are planning to do a loop this weekend.. well.. you have been warned.

Good, Im very pleased that this is happening.
Hopefully they will catch a few biker dicks who treat it as their personal race track each weekend.

I probably should have elaborated, there are a few groups of riders I know of that hit the loop at dum stoopid fast speeds, Its those riders I refer to.
The KB members that have been around for a few years will know who I refer to.

Havin lost a fair few mates on the loop anyway I what I say has backup

And yes I own a R1, my brain is well planted when I ride it, the fact that I have 170 odd HP dont mean I have to ride like a fuckwit, havent had a ticket in 6 years (touch wood) and dont intend changing that, but as my good mate says Im as slow as his nana.......on the road thats accurate:innocent:.

Shit! 38 is a big number for a romantic weekend :shit:

I reckon they've run out of footage for Road Cops and feel bikers aren't portrayed enough. Someone has obviously said we're being discriminated against.

Are they giving out free stuff? It's always worth getting edumacated with free stuff.

Good idea though. I've heard some insane stories about some occasions. Actually, it depends on what they're "educating" about. Bikers are renowned for switching off if someone is telling them something they don't feel is correct.

Who cares about the police? All I worry about is hitting hard objects and spreading myself over a wide area.

Live to ride and ride to live. Simple.:innocent:

I did the full loop yesterday too and saw one cop car at the Tapu General Store. No bikes at the Coroglen - just heaps of cars. Quite a few bikes thru Whiti but no big groups.

Yep, spreading yourself over a soft area has got to be the way to go :)

Title: Results for Waikato joint-agency motorcycle safety campaign<O:p</O:p

Though rain persuaded most riders to stay at home Waikato Police and partner agencies are pleased that those riders out on Coromandel roads today were mostly riding responsively.<O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p
Senior Sergeant Jeff Penno said the driver behind today's operation was the concern of not only the Police but partner agencies and the local community around the number of road crashes involving motorcycles in the area.
<O:p</O:p
"So today, together with ACC, NZTA , the Thames Coromandel District Council and bike industry groups we staged a mixed education and enforcement operation targeting high risk groups to reduce road trauma in line with the Safer Journeys 2020 national road strategy<O:p</O:p

"In all 56 motorbikes were stopped and we were pleased to note that the vast majority of riders were wearing the correct safety gear, had well maintained bikes and we very positive about the safety initiative.<O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p
"Of those motorbikes stopped 19 were found to be non-compliant with either riders breaching licence conditions or sub-standard vehicles."<O:p</O:p<O:p</O:p
Mr Penno said those deemed most at risk fell into two categories, motor cycle riders aged 15-25-years-old and those returning to bike riding aged 30-50. <O:pCrash studies had also identified that crash victims fell mostly into two categories of residency, local Coromandel riders and those from the Auckland area.
"While the majority of motorcyclists were found to be riding responsively one rider was found to be riding a bike with bald tires, no warrant or registration. His excuse was that Police had already disqualified him from driving and confiscated his car."

<O:p</O:pMr Penno said it was pleasing to see those out on two wheels were getting behind the road safety message and it was an attitude he wished was contagious with several car drivers found to be at fault. <O:p</O:p"Five cars were impounded and five people arrested including one person wanted on warrants and a driver who was arrested for excess breath alcohol who blew 935mgs when breath tested on SH25A near Kopu at 1pm.<O:p</O:p
<O:p</O:p
"All in all we're very pleased with today's results and we hope to see similar responsible attitudes on Waikato roads as we continue the operation later in the summer in line with the national Safer Journey's 2020 policy to reduce road trauma."

<O:pBackground figures from ACC
• The Waikato Police District had 142 of the new Motorbike ACC claims <O:pduring this period which represented 11% of the total new motorbike claims for NZ.
<O:p• Of the 142 new claims from the Waikato Police District, 26 came from <O:p</O:pcrashes in the Thames/Coromandel TLA.
Claims from the Thames/Coromandel area made up (17%) of the crashes from the Waikato Police district.
• The cost of active Motorbike claims in the Waikato Police District was <O:p</O:p$7,646,000.
• New and active Motorbike claims from the Thames/Coromandel areas cost <O:p</O:p$1,366,000. This represented 18% of the total claims cost for the Waikato Police District.
• Motorbike Crashes in NZ made up 25% of the total cost of claims to the <O:p</O:pACC Motor vehicle account.

apparently if you are aged 26-29 you are not at risk, can those riders that fit that criteria get a discount on acc/rego?

No. In fact it is their responsibility to carry on with the status quo as an example to the rest of us. This includes paying the same price.

I got stopped on 25A yesterday on the way to Tairua and I wasn't even on my bike.

Sign said all Motorcycles stop!

Had to give name & address into the machine, all sweet, 30 seconds tops. Didn't see many bikes out, but weather was shit.
