Okay, I have posted this on another site, and thought i would post it here too for anyone who is interested.
I will copy and paste the progress so far, so theres about 4-5 posts already for it.
any comments or advice is much appreciated, aim to have these things ready foe the 17th of nevember, when therell be a twilight meeting here in Dunedin at sliverstream.
I will get the other guy to post some pictures up as well.

from october the first.
Well, since racing can be expensive, Drunkenmistake and I got our hands on afew bikes. a CB125J, bored out to a 140cc, a CB125S, and an SL 125.
the plan is to turn these bikes into bucket racers.
We are at the momment trying to get a Dunedin Bucket scene going on, so if you are at all interested, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PM me!!! Id love to have others interested and getting into it. There is a possibility of racing at silverstream, as well as the bucket class at King of Levels.

The bikes arrived yesterday, in bits. in a crate.
Thus far they have been assembled (sort of) into a figure somewhat resembling motorcycles.
It looks like theres going to be a fair bit of work involved in getting these things up and running properly. We managed, after some effort to get DM's CB125J running. for three seconds. then it died. But not to fear, we are on the right track and progress seems to be coming along nicely on that bike.
Mine however is proving to be somewhat more challenging. Today, I did some work on my bike, and by work I mean I yelled a bit, got frustrated, yelled some more, tried a few things, then bashed it with a hammer and swore a bunch, before trying something else, which, FINALLY yielded a spark. not a big spark, but a spark nonetheless. So progress has been made there also.
additionally, we had to do a bunch of rewiring on both bikes, and removing un unnecessary items, like lights etc. We also had to tap and die the threads on the inside of the forks, and the bolts on the CB125J, (as they were cross threaded) in order to get them to bolt up.
Fortunately, we have our hands on a manual which makes life a tad easier.
Next few things on the to do list include
Shoehorn the SL125 engione into the CB125s, as the 's' has a fucked kickstart shaft on the outside of the casing
remove ignitions, and erewire through 'dead man' switches
compression test both engines and have a peek at valves etc etc
amongst other things.

From October 4th
you can buy a bucket ready to go from between $400 and 2k, depending on if you want to have fun, or be serious.
Today I removed the engine out of the c125s, and slipped in the sl engine, hooked the wires up, and I still have spark, so no backward steps so far. I still need to run a compression test to see if the SL engine is within spec. if not I will do new rings, and probably a rebore along with it, these can be bored out, OS pistons are easy and cheap to come by, and a GL145 headgasket seals the deal. If compression is good, I wont bother with it though.
Removed some more elements from the loom today too, just unnecessary stuff like lights etc, and a relay or two.
Another thing I found that made the choice of using the SL engine was the clutch in the CB has either seized or dislodged something, its jammed and she aint moving, so one less thing to worry about. the SL clutch is tight too, ut hopefully some gentle persuation can free that up to a comfortale level.
Also ran some tests on the batteries, and found they are both fucked, which explains a) the weak sparks we have thus far had, and b) why the CB125j was a bitch to start, and only ran for a few seconds. So we will have to source new batteries for the beasties, though I may look into whether or not we can wire them like dirt bikes, and remove the battery completely, we will see.
The only thing I intend to run on the bike is a tach anyway, so will see how things go from here.

From October 5th
Well got some more work done on the buckets today. Started on the CB/SL (mine. I think I will just refer to mine as the SL from now on . . . . )
Double checked that I still have spark, and went about removing some more wiring, and the rear lights etc, double checking that I still had spark as i went, sometimes its odd what things are co-wired, and it can be a real hassle figuring out which single wire you shouldt have removed later!
After removing a bunch of stuff, I decided that seeing as a key had previously been broken off in the ignition, I might as well ditch the fucker, so out she came, and I will later wire in a dead man switch instead.
After that I thought Id better check the compression, yep, that was good, and again, I still had spark, so I thought Id fit the tank and see if I could get it to fire with the dodgy batterey it had on it. it was producing a spark, though not a very good one. I put the tank on, and added gas in the top, which promptly leaked out the bottom.
Bugger.
remove tank, remove petrol. undo tap, put new O-ring in, put tank on, add gass in the top . . leaks out the bottom FUCK!
remove, well you get the point.
It seems several parts of the tap leak, so thats a job for later. I also gave the carb a clean out, looks like new now!!
Then I decided Id have a crack at the CBj.
fortunately there didnt appear to be any issues with the tank leaking, so put that on, add fuel, double check we have spark, and for the sake of being thorough, whipped the battery out of DM's cbr and wired that in (sort of )
kicked it over. and over. and over and, well you get the point. No juice. crap!!.
Ok, try a bump start and see if that gets us anywhere. after several attempts, the answer was no. Back to running some checks, and whaddya know, the fuel tank doesnt leak, because it doesnt let ANY fuel through >:(
Righto then, put a spare tank on (after checking it has no issues) and make sure we have fuel, and spark again. Repeat the kicking and bump starting processes.
Then scream. Throw hands in air. Go sit in the office and sulk. Get bright idea to check the timing and compression. Check compression = good. Check timing. Timing seems good, but tinker anyway.
Thought Id give it one more shot before I get Bertha to help me (Bertha is a lovely big sledgehammer that sees to all my unsolvable problems)
A couple bump starts in second, and whoooooOoooooo!! She’s away!! Took her for her virgin ride, popped her cherry so to speak, and she runs very sweetly, even sits there and just idles away quietly even cold with no choke.
So some more progress made, that’s a bonus!! And hopefully more to come!!

Well, made a little more progress over the last couple of days on the SL.
In the last couple of days I have had to deconstruct the tank, and rebuild it, replacing some of the O-rings, so I can use the bloody thing!!
After doing that, I decided that since I definitely already have spark, Id go about removing th unnecessary wiring and what not, so set about removing a few wires, checking I still had spark, then repeating as I went. Slow work, but it pays to check as you go, trust me, I know how much of a bitch it is when you wrench handfulls of wire out, then you have to figure out which one you shouldnt have...
Anyway after doing that, I had whittled it down to the few necessary wires, cut off the unnecessary stuff, and made a new loom for what was required. YAY, still had spark!
I thought I would go about giving it a push start to see if I could get it going, then realised that it needed a few things done first, like shortening the chain (mmm grinder mmm sparks..) and put that back on. Next was having to loosen up the clutch that had, in the meantime seized up, and after that I had to mount all the hardware, and set the cables, etc.
Once that was done, I had to set the wheels up, one of the adjusters is broken, but I figured fuckit, Only need one to try and test start the thing.
Quickly realised after that i was going to need a gear lever if i wanted to get it into gear... so i put one on it. Rightio, away I go. puffed and huffed, and ran and jumped and cursed and swore... No Go.
Today though, I hooked up a battery kindly donated by Virago, my suspicions being that a weak spark may be the culprit, and guess what. One kick. ONE> and the SL fired into life with some anger. and when I say anger, I mean that thing sounds HUNGRY!. Its louder than my friggin R1!!!
Being excited I decided I had to take it for a quick spin around the complex I didnt have the footpegs on it yet, but I figured that wouldnt matter, Id just hold my legs up! . Now those of you who know where my workshop is know that if you turn left out of my door, you get a reasonable long straight run, before having to turn hard left to exit the complex. Well I roared out the door, and up the straight, through second, past third, and just hit fourth, almost at the corner. and guess what I realised. Yep I hadnt hooked any of the brakes up yet. An 'Oh Shit' momment followed, but I made it round the corner without too much fuss, and found a spot to turn around and come back, at a more sedate pace.
So thats the progress so far. next on the list for the SL will be to:
fabricate some pegs, stock ones arent going to work with my long legs,
attack brakes
tighten the nut that holds the front wheel on ,
fabricate an adjuster for the rear right side
and for the CB, we need to pull the fuel tap apart on its tank and have a look at whats going on in there, and get it sorted.

hehe, what you cant see is the yamaha 600, the R1, the VT250, the IT175, the quad bike and all the rest.
Not sure the missus actually knows how many 'projects' (toys) I actually have down there.

ok, so a wee bit of an update. DM decided to remove the headlight and instrument cluster, and begin removing the unnecessary wires.
after removing the instruments and a bunch of wiring, he had me check that he had done it right. he hadnt :facepalm:
The next 30 minutes or so were spent trying to figure out where the wires needed to be replaced that shouldnt have been removed:blink:.
Got that sorted and made sure the spark had returned, thankfully it had.
on the SL, I decided that after my wee ride the other day, brakes and pegs needed to be put on so I could 'test ride' (read play) whenever i wanted.
I put those on temporarily, as the pegs are probably going to need to be modified, to suit my height, which in turn means Ill have to modify the gearshift linkages :corn:
We are still thinking about paint schemes etc, and are looking around for some fairings that we can add to them for a bit of 'flavour'. So if you know of anyone that has some tail peices or anything really, that we might be able to modify to fit, please let me know. damage isnt an issue, whether fibreglass or plastic, as I have the tools etc to repair anyway!:yes:
Also stripped out the wiring from the switchblocks that runs through the bars on the SL (remember its a cb frame) and geez, it has an odd throttle setup!
I think thats about all for now.

had a busy day today, so DM and I went and spent a couple hours messing around with the bikes tonight instead.
Hayden had begun stripping the rest of the unnecessary wiring of the CB, while I Started off by thinking I should do an oil change on the SL. I got as far as loosening the drain bolt, when I am interrupted by 'Tiiiiiiiiiiiiimmmmmmmmmmm..... how do I do this, what do I do next, I dunno what Im doing' (is this what its like having kids? god I hope not!!)
I went over to take a look at the tangled mess of wiring DM had managed to get strewt across the length of the bike, and set about showing him what do do, which, of course, led to doing it for him... so we (and I use the term 'we' lightly) removed the rest of the useless stuff, and shortened a few other pieces, and did a bit of soldering, before wrapping the loom back up again all tidy like.
It crossed our minds that we hadnt had it running in the last couple of weeks, and that we had only checked for spark, so thought, why not.
Found a kick starter for it, put it on, and gave it a kick. The kick starter promptly broke. so I threw the kickstarter at DM's smug little laughing stupid face, and found another one that luckily, fitted perfectly!.
Next, we remembered his fuel tank was fucked, and rather than piss around too much, we just chucked the nearest spare tank on for the sake of firing it up.
Hooked up the jump battery, and after a dozen or so kicks (each getting a little more aggressive than the last in desperation) the bike coughed, spluttered, farted once (or was that DM?....) and burbled into life.
Satisfied that DM has managed to not make a big enough hash of anything that he completely fucked the CB (how he managed to not kill it yet, I dunno, but for the sake of my sanity, I will just be gratefull!)
The next little while was spent figuring out whick tank to use on the CB, and we settled on the original SL tank. seeing as it seemed to work OK, and should require the least effort.
After this I managed to get a few minutes to put the sump plug back in the SL after draining the oil, and topped it up. Thought Id better fire it up for a minute too.
I am now looking into whether or not to completely remove the stock airbox, and just run a pod filter directly off the back of the carb. I will have to test how it runs like this, as it may not like it very much, but we will see. I also relocated the regulator a little further away from the engine as it will get quite hot when racing, and located it under the seat. The coil has also been relocated from it's hot-house like stock position above the engine, in the recess in the underside of the tank.

Ok so today we got a bit of work done to the Buckets... After i woke up at 1:30pm
When I had arrived at the workshop TT was glueing up his CDI and then was taping it up from here to Timbuktu with insulation tape, at which I asked "What did you do to it?" and all I go was "Rebuilt it.", TT put it back into his bike and gave it a few kicks with the plug out to see if we were sparking.. Still nothing.. Rechecked the "kill plug" and it was a bit loose so put it back in and gave it a kick, and BAM one big F**k off spark, so the CDI is fixed! TT was telling me the bikes run on a 6V system so thats why the CDI decided to give up on life because we had jimmied in a 12V battery, so after all this we ripped off the air boxes on both bikes so we can put on Pod filters and make some room under the seat, we then took some scrap steal and drew the basic shape of out 6V batteries, for the sides and bottoms, Then the fun began!.. we used the plasma cutter to cut the pieces out as these pieces were the start of our new battery boxes, TT started to wield the pieces together while i cut them out and then I started to grind them town to pretty them up somewhat, TT swapped with myself and got me to wield one of the bottoms on, I think he was just looking at an excuse to ruin my ego again.. well whats left of it , go that wielded up and ground down, and the tricky part started, we havnt finished this part yet but have started it, the new battery boxes are been wielded to the inside of the frame under the seat where the air box was, the battery was originally mounted to the side of the air box ..
I think Iv averagely summed it up, I got a few pictures ill upload them later,
If anyone has a couple of 36mm pod filters they want to "lose" let us know
