Hi everyone,
Roadcraft School of Motorcycling and Motoring Ltd, is branching out again.
I have leased a premises opposite the AA in Orewa, (Shop 4, 15-19 Florence Ave., Orewa, Auckland) which is beside the McDonalds Drive Thru.
This is going to be a Road Safety/Riding/Driving School shop, similar to the ones in England.
From this venue, I will be offering the Defensive Driving Course, and will soon be offering motorcycle and car related Unit Standards, giving credits to those who are trying to gather credits for Uni entrance.
My plan is, that this venue will become a biker friendly venue, where there will be coffee and tea available, and a chance to talk about any rider training, ACC, Mag-NZ, or anything else that might catch your fancy..
NEXT DEFENSIVE DRIVING COURSE IS STARTING ON THE 2ND NOVEMBER FROM 6-8PM, 6TH NOVEMBER 2-4PM, 9TH NOVEMBER 6-8 PM, 11TH NOVEMBER 6-8PM.
THE PRACTICAL ELEMENT OF THIS COURSE CAN BE DONE ON A MOTORBIKE, EITHER MY TRAINING BIKE, OR YOUR OWN LEGAL BIKE.
If you know anyone who would like to get the course done for their car driving, then they can book a place and come along too.
Cost for the course is $200 for non-students, or $170 for full-time students with a student card.
Shop is officially opening on 30th October with a Sausage Sizzle from 9am - 1pm.
Please stop by and say Hello!!
Safe biking,
Tricia

Brilliant! I'll have to pop down and see you when I can! We usually call in to McCafe for a coffee on Friday mornings, and I'm hoping for good news from my surgeon on Wed. which will help me get out and about a bit more.
I've been stuck at home for weeks!
I've seen your cards at Tim's garage. I'll tell my biking friends to call in as well.

Wow that's great news. Quality training facilities targeted at motorcycle riders is just what we need.
I might see if I can make the sausage sizzle.

Having done my DDC with Tricia I can thoroughly recommend her as an instructor. Professional though friendly, with a good humour. As an experienced motorcyclist Tricia was able to give oodles of examples to illustrate points and give advice above and beyond the standard.
This is an essential for anyone returning to biking.
Best of luck Tricia Hopefully be there for the opening

You are all welcome. I would like to feel that it is a place where you can come along and discuss motorcycles, cars, petrol heads over a coffee or a cup of tea.
It is a huge step for me, and I will need all the support I can get.

Can the wife buy me lessons vouchers from you guys?
Absolutely. No problem at all.
You will get good quality training, as my colleague and I believe that driving/riding lessons should not just be about "Turn left, turn right, take your money, thank you very much"
If she would like to give you a voucher for some bulk lessons for xmas, she could put them on lay by now, and pay them off between now and Xmas.
Come along on the 30th between 9 and 12 to the sausage sizzzzzle at:
Shop 4, 15-19 Florence Ave, Orewa, and we can discuss your requirements, whether they by bike or car or defensive.

Everyone is welcome on Saturday morning for a sausage sizzle at:
Roadcraft School of Motor(cycl)ing, Shop 4, 15-19 Florence Ave, Orewa.
Directly opposite the AA in Orewa, and beside the drive thru for McDonalds.:woohoo:
I would love to be able to put some faces to KB user names, and also FB names.
Discuss with us your individual needs, whether they are in the future, or perhaps you are already along the GDLS road.
The GDLS system will be undergoing changes next year, so it would be wise to get your foot on the rung of the ladder now, rather than wait till the changes eventuate.
SEE YOU ON SATURDAY!! :calm:

Apologies to all on 'Norf Shore' the downpour that just happened was my fault. In preparation for travelling to the sausage sizzle decided to make the Kat pretty by washing her. Just shammied and down comes the rain. Had to be my fault! didn't follow the washing golden rule. Never wash when there's a cloud in the sky

I was hoping to come to the sausage sizzle this morning, and lend support to the latest motorcycle business. Alas family commitments prevented me from attending.
I hope it went well, and wish your new business outlet the best.

Congratulations, Trish! The morning was great, the sausage sizzle was tasty and not even the shower of rain could spoil it! We wish you well, and you certainly deserve to succeed, a business like this has been needed and should now be supported by everyone!
With 50,000 businesses ceasing to trade over the last year, it's a tough climate, but you have something unique that is needed today and if you can get Govt. support for the DDC's and referrals for training you should do well. Mrs. Bear and I will certainly be recommending you to everyone! In fact Mrs. Bear got hold of her boss right away and she will be calling in to see you sometime soon.
Was great to catch up with a few KB'rs and meet a couple of members for the first time! Nice to be able to put faces to the names!

Absolutely fantastic to have a facility like this. Thanks Tricia for your hospitality today, much appreciated and of course all the best luck in the world. I actually enjoyed my sausages :pinch: Yes sausages plural :shit:
I am looking forward to reviewing that DVD as well. It was amazing just how much discussion was generated amongst all of us that watched it.

I suppose it beats getting credits for Uni entrance by picking up rubbish.

Further to something that I briefly spoke to Anne James about on Saturday.
I think we should join forces with as many people/organisations as possible to encourage ACC to reduce the levy for ACC being paid with our registration for our motorbikes for those riders who are assessed at being lower risk than others.
During the week, I received my rego renewal for my sports car and also for my FZ1. The cost???? $287.87 for the sports job and $528.75 for the FZ1!!!
This is outrageous. In 5 years, I have never needed to claim from ACC for any motorcycle or car mishaps.
When I lived in Ireland, I used to carry out Insurance assessments for AON insurance. Usually the student underwent about 3 hours training, and then had the assessment. Usually they would, following assessment be rewarded with a 33% or 66% reduction in their insurance which can be quite a sum of money. That reduction was good for either 3 or 5 years (I can't remember which).
To make this worthwhile for Kiwis, and as insurance is not compulsory, then the reward will need to be the registration costs for motorcycles.
I still have the paperwork used for those assessments, so we could present a package to ACC. Katrina Van Der Wende is the motorcycle injury prevention consultant at ACC. she visited my new shop on Friday to drop off free stuff for the bikers.
It would be great to get some debate going about this, so that we might be able to move it forward. It would certainly benefit each and everyone of us.
I tried to get a similar deal going with protecta insurance for the same reason, they don't seem to have time to work on the project.
For all those that don't have licences for the bikes that they currently ride, then that is the first step, so that we (bikers as a group) can be seen to be responsible for our actions. For those who don't want their peers to know that they don't have the "appropriate" licence for the bike they ride, then we can get your through your licence discreetly!!!!!!!:innocent:
I suppose that I would like to see some healthy debate about this topic, as it is close to my heart. Anything that involves educating people about road safety is close to my heart. Also some good and bad feedback, and to properly tease this out.
What do you think??? Is it doable??
