Does anyone know if the Woodstock Rally in Hokitika is on in January next year. The West Coast Touring Club website has no mention of it at all.Would be good if they could at least put up a note saying it is cancelled if that is the case.

Ya never know, if you expressed an interest you might find some people keen to take the long way to Hoki and keep you company for part of the ride.....

The night in the tent, abhorrant. I'm not a tent girl. Fcuk that was awful, only just bearable. Being bearable is perhaps what counts for I do like to drink and dance.
Mayhap that I could arrange a wee away at that time of year, a treat maybe in order.

what makes it bearable for me is the kathmandau air bed and a bigger tent. Don't feel so claustrophobic. But i love meeting up with all the people i have meet through here. It is great.

Tis funny how different things appeal. I was a bit surprised by the talk of disliking the tenting thing as the tenting/camping is one of the things that appeal to me about rallies. To me it's about the journey to and from, the camping, checking out the bikes that turn up, and catching up with mates ...

However we often get there a little late (2ish) and the sites usually packed out... Soooo, an earler start and lunch further down the line even tho the Dawsons Saloon is a great spot and decent food may need to be a change this year.

Assuming I was looking in the right place when I went for a nosey while killing some time on a work trip a while back, is the main paddock the one with the building in it below the road, and the other paddock up above the road? If so then the upper paddock was looking pretty tidy and campable when I was there.
Probably a good question to ask anyway so I know where the hell I'm going (assuming the duc is back in one piece and had it's buggered bits replaced by then)

main paddock (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=83713&d=1201509955) has the building along the roadside & the un fenced area above the road (sth side) is where the entertainment is.

Assuming I was looking in the right place when I went for a nosey while killing some time on a work trip a while back, is the main paddock the one with the building in it below the road, and the other paddock up above the road? If so then the upper paddock was looking pretty tidy and campable when I was there.
Probably a good question to ask anyway so I know where the hell I'm going (assuming the duc is back in one piece and had it's buggered bits replaced by then)
You are right that the main paddock has the building in it (toilets & showers) but the area above the road is the whole entertainment area, bar, band, games etc, so no camping there.
The second paddock is right next to the main one (up river) and you access it by the road between that carrys on through the site:yes:

next paddock along from the main one the 2nd tent site

Never knew about no caves either, and the only glow worms I ever seen was in the wet T, or was that wet jock? was that this rally or another... oh dam the mind is blending time into one...
This was some pics I got in 09, dont think I went in 10. or did I? Below is from the top of said alternate area. I would say arriving on the Friday, should be plety o space in std spot. It was pretty lumpy in that alt spot, not that is was terrible, but if one was a little inhibited, you might not make it back to ya tent.

That we did! Mums party has been down graded to afternoon tea on Sunday, with only a slight chance of the bird dance. So as long as I dont muck around too much getting home from the rally, looks like I'm going to Woodstock after all :niceone: The tail gunner has a crook back so no riding for her. What time are you leaving Helen?

Not a bad ride home. I couldnt fail to notice that Suzi Q's road works had signs from arsehole to breakfast. The only thing missing now is a big flashing arrow. A vast improvement from what it looked like on the way over.

Man.. were does the time go at a rally, awesome fun wicked ride even in the wet, but what the hell did you Friday nighters do to the grounds? I thought the Guzzi was going to be toeing others out of the mud all arvo. 8 outa 10 for me and still the best rally in the country.

...still the best rally in the country.
+10 to that. Still a newbie at this game but we were well impressed with the site, the music (Floyd-head heaven on Sat night ), the atmosphere, friendly punters, awesome fireworks - and all of it centred among the best riding in NZ. Makes me proud to be a 'Coaster... even if I did have to make a wee contribution to the Federales for riding at 64kmh on a deserted Hoki back street

Great ride, great rally with great company - thanks to y'all. A lad on a CBR flagged me down 2kms after we gassed up at Springfield, pointing to what I thought was my back tyre. I stopped, checked everything and was just about to continue when I noticed the underside of my tent bag on the ventura rack had two ~100mm black holes in it corresponding to where the exhaust exits. Yep, the beast must have literally been smoking up in the hills - bloody lucky the heat and all the air flow never caused it to actually catch fire...:shit::eek5:

Great weekend, ride over with dangerous and co on saturday was good even if a bit wet, but the weather at the rally site was mint and the gear was dry this morning so all good.
The band was awesome although I guess if you're not a floyd fan it would have sucked a bit, fireworks were spectacular and the glow worms were cool once the nice man with the torch led us in, probably should bring one with you next time you take people there eh D
Mostly dry ride home although pretty slow, might have to bring some tread for my back tyre with me next time I go riding in the rain.
I noticed the underside of my tent bag on the ventura rack had two ~100mm black holes in it corresponding to where the exhaust exits.
I was looking at that when I was behind you on saturday and thinking it was a bit closee, but had a nosey when we stopped and it looked fine, the rain must have been keeping it in check.
And good to meet you too.
Some dubious randoms have told me I may have been slightly over the top last night!!!!:oi-grr:
You seemed fine when we saw you at hotdog before bed time, you must have got your misbehaving out of your system by then.

Yup...wet tent...wet clothes....and it was still raining when we left around 11am. I didn't fancy a 2nd night in da rain and I didn't fancy being tired and hung over for an intense learning curve this week at work. Sounds like the weather picked up and you all had a awesome time.

My second Woodstock Rally and I LOVED it :) I had some troubles with my NT 400 on Saturday morning so our early departure ended with a 180 km round trip from Goon town to Lake Lindon and back, but best a sulky bike is safe at home in the garage than needing a trailer ride from some wet West Coast locale with no phone coverage! (turned out to be crap in the fuel lines... I should ride more often to blow s*it out! Thanks to Mr Triple for spending his annual leave day fixing my bike xo).
By the time we came home and reloaded our gear (and me) onto the Tiger it was noon before we got away so we were pretty happy to see there were plenty of tent spaces available (a big thanks to those who decided drying out at home was more attractive, though a shame to miss catching up with you!).
Had a fantastic time catching up with everyone else and rocking out to the "Floyd Experience"! That was something else!!
Seems it was meant to be that I was bikeless... though no one would wish injuries on a fellow rider I ended up with the task of riding a slightly beaten GSR home on Sunday.... after I got used to the wonky handle bars and only a front brake I REALLY enjoyed the ride... what a guttsy little bike... first thing I did Sunday evening was check Trade-Me for one of my own!!
Great catching up with you all, had a blast... bring on the next one!
Cheers,
Em

Yes sorry we did not catch up with more people.
But understandable why more people did not ride over on Friday.
But was amazed how many riders that did turned up real late at night to the rally site.
And I do like to try out the less travelled roads, sorry about all the gravel or garden path as WOF puts it. (not really)
