Sat my 6F in Lower Hutt today, took around 25 mins, pretty easy, but glad it's over.
Time to flick off the Hyosung, great little bike that it was, and get something with a bit more grunt =]

Or an SV650S because they are prettier.

Each to their own but personally I can't stand the look of the SV. I think the Hyo is much nicer.

cheers all, looking more towards an r6 or daytona 675 as the next step, although, would consider an r1 if it was cheap enough and just be super cautious/respectful of it haha

GT250R to a super sports bike is a MASSIVE step up. Be very careful and take it slow.

R1s are anything but cheap mate. Have you got a budget in mind? Thanks for the bike details, I've passed them on and I'll have a chat about it with him.

Just remember that anything 601cc and over will attract an additional fee for every year that you own it now ...

The early carburetor models are fairly cheap now.

I was talking faired/semi faired twins, we all know the BROS650 is the prettiest and by far the best sounding....One of my favorite sounds actually.
There are plenty of older 600 4cyls for bloody good money these days, hell, even a CBR600F3/4/4i are good value now.
Earlier R6 are cheap, SRAD 750s are stupid value for money, as are ZX7R Kwakas....
Or my current pick, CBR900....Nuff said.

Money isn't too much of an issue as I'll pay extra for what I want, but up to 13k second hand, and if nothing suits I'd go brand new on a 675.
Have to decide whether I'm going to Oz next year or not though.

Get a rocket ship. Every time you crack the throttle you'll be too busy worrying about the extra pesos rego.
Point it towards the horizon and make the white lines blur together with your balls on fire and a silent scream in your throat

congrats on getting your full. Personally I would probably go with a 750 gsxr but the 675 is a good bike also.

A quick look on TradeMe shows not much difference between R6 and R1:
2006 R6, $11,000

2006 R1, $11,000
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Motorbikes/Motorbikes/Sports/auction-325366620.htm
But as others mentioned, 600cc+ means higher rego fee, and you'll be paying more for tyres and other parts.

Hey mate gratz on the full, you're in the exact state I was in a week ago looking at the exact same two bikes. I ended up with an 06 R6 and loving it so far, quite high and aggressive riding position but I like that. I only sat on the 675 and felt very nice although the handle bars seemed a bit far away, I could get flat foot being 5FT8 on the daytona but tip-toe on the R6 which is fine but a little akward manovering/turning the bike around etc with a shocking steering circle radius lol, but it's a race bike not a scooter.
I find the down low power fine on the R6 where as some people say there's nothing there, I don't know what they are talking about but maybe it just seems quick because I'm used to a 250. From 6k the R6 starts pulling and once you hit 10k the front wheel starts lifting like I experienced for the first time today lol. :D
Good luck with ya shopping!

Before I actually started testing bigger bikes I too was all like "1000cc bikes cost about the same as 600cc bikes, so I'll just skip a costly stepping stone and go straight to the business". After actually testing 600cc sports bikes I found out how damn powerful they are.
I eventually settled on an equivalently powered (on paper) 919cc naked bike which is detuned to a power level similar to a 600cc.
Go try some somes bikes before you decide.. I HATED the hornet before I actually rode it.
