I would like to see all the gutless whimps that constantly criticize police behind their keyboards try this job. A little less selfish focus on the self-proclaimed right to the roads above all others, and a bit more community spirit would be nice to see, and needed more than ever.

Cops are human and not perfect, but they have a job to do that revolves around keeping the peace both on the roads and our homes when needed. They get held personally resonsible for their actions. Personal responsibility for our own actions - now that is a novel concept lost on the stupid....

NEWS:
A Hamilton policewoman drew a gun on a group of men assaulting her partner after a Taser failed to subdue them.

A constable was left with a bloodied eye following the fracas, which stemmed from a domestic incident in Fairfield.

A female senior sergeant twice unsuccessfully used a Taser on three men who had piled on top of her constable colleague, beating him. She eventually drew her firearm as she awaited backup.

City area commander Inspector Rob Lindsay the officers were leaving the Marshall Ave address after attending the callout related to a heated argument between the 55-year-old father of the family at the address and his 34-year-old son and other people at the house.

As the police were leaving the father arrived and confronted them.

"A Taser was deployed and used twice on the father [one of the trio]," Mr Lindsay said.

"Despite making contact it had little effect."

The man's 34 and 18-year-old sons joined in the assault with the female officer drawing her firearm to stop them.

"I am very proud of my staff in that they were not afraid to use the whole range of tactical options available from trying to reason with the offenders to using their batons then pepper spray, a taser and eventually deploying a firearm to quell the situation," Mr Lindsay said.

"What concerns me the most is my staff, one of who suffered damage to an eye, were called to the address to help the people there and in turn were set upon by the occupants. This should not just be unacceptable to Police but to the community as a whole."

Three men were to face a variety of charges including aggravated assault and resisting police while a woman at the property was also charged with obstructing police.

Totally agree with you, unfortunately our NZ society, or should I say the minority element that causes a large percentage of the issues we have on our roads and the violence we see in our communities take little heed of warnings, pleadings ect ect.
Until we face up to this and start to insist our courts inflict upon these individuals punishment that they will take notice off we will see little change.
Likewise the police insistence that by stopping us all speeding and drinking will bring our road toll down will not work. The small element that causes the issues surrounding high speed loss of control and true drunken driving won't take notice until the penalty for such behaviour is substantial enough to deter. After all look at the numbers of repeat offenders that continually ignore the law and the minor consequences received when caught.

do you see what the problem is? she only "drew" the firearm.

she would have been entirely justified in painting it. Perhaps a nice watercolour, or even oil painting.

Then she could have shot the scumbags. Three scumbags, two shots each, leaves 9 shots for other scumbags. Provided she could do it without harming the plod on the ground of course.

Agreed... They do have an unbelievably shitty job at times, dealing with the scum that we leave them to deal with. No matter how close knit a community is, these things will never stop happening. People will be people and in the heat of a moment may live to do something they'll regret later, even when officers of the law are involved... they are only human after all...

Fines and laws will not stop these 10's of thousands of individuals that really don't give a shit who you are... in fact in plenty of cases i'd say they'll have the opposite effect.

Bravo to the plod, tis a job I couldn't do.

Good call Stoney.

Police are just human beings who are trying to do their job, same as everyone else. Of course there are always going to be times when the coppers are out of line, but think what NZ society would be like if they just disappeared altogether.

The stupid muppets who make their jobs hard are the type of people who are "all rights and no responsibilites", think that they are not responsible for anything and are always trying to pass the blame onto someone else. "That cop assaulted me!?! I R GOING TO KICK THEIR ARSE!1!!!!1!" Someone should tell these people, Perhaps YOU might have done something to incite them acting in this way?

What these people need to learn is that you cannot find any release passing your responsibilites onto other people. YOU are responsible for your behavior and your attitude, NO ONE ELSE.

The sooner people begin to learn said lessons, the sooner we will live in a far better society and the job of the police will become a lot easier.

Is it really justified to blame the Police? It sounds, (and I say this in the nicest way...), like you have rather been an arrogant, mouthy upstart to attract the attention. I have many family, friends and aquaintances who are not clean, green and meek, "goody-goody-two-shoes" and I speak my mind and don't cowtow to anyone either, yet I don't know anyone who has your kind of hassles from the law.

I treat everyone, including the Police with dignity and respect and receive the same in return. If something is none of my business, ie: as a bystander, I keep out of it.

I don't see the wisdom in attracting negative attention, just to show you're a rebel.

Big thanks to the NZ Police; they have to deal with the absolute scum of society so we don't have to (as much). That house you don't want burglarised, your SO who you'd prefer isn't raped every time they walk out the door, sunshine, ponies and more.

When watching "police-10-7" or "motorway patrol" you see all the stuff they have to put up with, all the time I'm secretly hoping that they only put up with it because of the camera and that if some little punk started swearing at them in a normal situation they'd get a nightstick in the mouth.

Point appreciated Toaster, we're all human and we all make mistakes. The police have the unfortunate roll of doing their job in a country where the most interesting news day-to-day is cats getting stuck up trees which makes any of their mistakes stand out like a sore thumb.

Thanks mates!

while agree the police had a hard job to do, it does not give them the right to qct like arseholes, in fact in doing so only convinces ordinary people, that they are arseholes.

treat a person, in a way that they percieve to be unfair, and they wont remember the ticket, they will remember the bullshit coming from the cop. I know I still do, even after 3 years.

I'm an old bugger brought up to respect the police etc, but it only took one cop to treat me badly, and another to show me first hand they are prepared to lie, and now I no respect at all for the blue uniform. my fault??? I dont think so.

respect is earned, not a given, prove to me the police are prepared to treat people fairly, prove to me that that traffic officers are not arrogant, aggressive revenue collectors, and Ill consider thinking about respecting the police again.

He was a sworn policeman in uniform. My saving grace was a neighbour driving past who stopped and asked what was going on, the cop said "nothing" and then jumped back in his car and drove off. But sadly I have heard from others that this sort of behaviour with teenage girls does go on. And unfortunately whilst the majority of policeman are very good at their jobs and are there to provide a service to the public, there is amongst them those few bad apples, who take advantage of the authority they hold and who are no better than the criminals they are supposed to protect us from. Do these bad apples treat the police force as there own personal gang? In my opinion absolutely.

Did you report him?

I was 15 and late getting back to school. More concerned with a nun with a strap or worse detention. LOL. I did tell my neighbour what had been going on, and she reported it to my parents. Unfortunately neither of us bothered to get a badge number or licence plate number. So sadly this policeman never did get reported and god knows how many others he tried this on.

Mate, when you are sitting quietly in the Square in Chch .. not hassling anyone, not doing anything except reading a book ... not talking to anyone ... and the police demand to search you "for drugs ..." and when you ask "On what Grounds ?" they come back with something like "suspicion of carrying drugs ..." their only real evidence is that you have long hair ...

How do you think we feel ??? Pissed off? Harrassed ???

Yeah ... I have not been an ideal citizen in the past ... and I know when I have been provocative and stirring .. and when I haven't ...

I do know the difference .. I'm not stupid ... or arrogant ... If I have to deal with the police, I will ... on a polite and non-confrontational basis ...

But I have seen them provoke things ... step outside the law ... on their own initiative ...

NZ cops are pretty good, I have had mostly nothing but good experiences dealing with the police. Very professional.

Dont envy them though, angry nutjobs seem to be on the increase.

I do think cracking down down on alcohol and promoting cannabis use would calm society and make their jobs easier. Imagine going to a domestic where Mr and Mrs Bleh are stoned....huh?

Exactly.

If this indeed happened, then I implore you to make a formal complaint about it. How many times could he have done this to other people because you let it go?.
NZ Police have a VERY high standard of integrity and if this officer is in fact guilty of what you are accusing then, his feet wouldn't even touch the floor on his way out the door.

Re quoted for the truth.... Shame she, or the neighbour, didn't get the rego. Or a half decent description...????

.... My bro tried the old, "My fingers slipped off the clutch officer, that's why I was doing a wheelie!" and the cop told him he was a liar. Well he was right. I am sure they get sick of hearing pathetic excuses. Better than having the gangs running the town!

But I bet the cop was an arsehole for calling him a liar...........?????????

In my limited experience and observation, there seem to be two broad groups of Police officer, that use two different approaches:

1. The easy-going community spirited rule enforcer who will try to put you at ease, call you mate, tell you he's concerned for your safety, the safety of everyone else, and call you mate, and show interest in your story, and call you mate, and then book you.

2. The blitzkrieg ram the lawbook down your throat, kick your arse, then book you and move on to the next victim.

Unfortunately neither of these approaches garner them any real respect, 1 comes across as false, insincere and untrustworthy, and 2 comes across as an asshole.

The rapists, thieves and perjurers in the force can fall into either camp.

As someone posted a while back, they lowered the standards in order to get more police, that speaks for itself.

I'm struck by the irony, that the police tell us not to complain if we speed then get a ticket, because we are speeding, and getting caught and ticketed is a natural consequence of that. Then they complain that they get no respect, when that is also a natural consequence of the behaviour that many see for themselves, and see reported in the media.

There was a saying in one of my past lives: "You can make me call you Sir, Sir but you still have to earn my respect."

None of this excuses the thugs for beating the cops in Hamilton though, that was totally disgusting and uncalled for. Somebody should have eaten some 9mm that night.

I'm calling bullshit on this. Soooo many cops let things slide...... every fricken day. Its called the attitude test.

I was once a passenger in my g/f car and she got pulled over doing 65-70 in a 50km/hr about 12 years ago. He really wanted to let her off, she was rattled and unpleasant, I was smiling and almost winking at the cop, he ticketed her because she was an unrepentant asshole to deal with. Major attitude fail.

I'm a landlord, have been for 25 years. Tenants often hate you, for no good reason except you have some authority over them, and they have to give you money. Some of my tenants needed a good batoning by god. Same with being a boss (except the boss gives you money, for your time).

Sure some are at fault, usually its just a mistake of judgement, but disliking another because of their authority over you is just immature and stupid. Bad dog. Why not be nice to those entrusted with defending us from angry crazies?

Some people need to pull their heads out of their asses.

Work on passing the attitude test, and you might be lucky and get a cop who remembers what life was like in 1998 and hasn't perfed out, instead of one of the new young thrusters with something to prove, a script to follow and a quota to fill.

So therein lies the conundrum. My story is the direct opposite of yours, so why is that? Why is it that two innocent people can have so different life stories? Why can you attract unjustified and undeserved prejudicial attention from the Police while I can have a dream run with not one incidence of undeserved harrasment? Why have I always been treated with respect from the Police and you haven't?

I have had good and bad experiences - I have to say though, depends on the situation.
When I was with stupid idiotic boyfriends who were behaving badly, the treatment we got was not so nice, but still appropriate and legal.
When I have been on my own and (mostly) behaving then cops are great and very helpful.

We had the cops outside our house the other month as a party was out of control and they said we could detain any of the teenagers and use "reasonable" force. One said to me that yes I could reprimand the boys that were trying to steal my truck :woohoo:.

What an awesome sight a line of cops with shields and batons jogging past our house was! I loved the way the little smart arse shits ran and cried like babies - very tough when throwing rocks at a woman, but pussys when the cops get them!

Last time I was stopped I wasn't sure whether I was going to get a ticket or not, after being sent on my way (so as not to hold me up).

The ticket turns up in the mail sure enough. I think it's actually a tactic to prevent people from getting upset when they realise how much it is going to cost them, and to let them leave feeling like just maybe they have gotten away with it.

As an aside I guess this "service" will now have attracted an additional 2.5% GST?

aside from the whole 'you are breaking the law and should be punished' I would have alot more repect for them if they policed on safety rather than some hard nosed rule of money making...

From my experience.

1. I have been booked at 111km/hr at 1am in the morning on SH1 with only me and the cop on the road.
2. I have been booked at 61 km/hr going into feilding (long stretch of nothing that is technically a 50km/hr zone but no one really does 50 cause its painful!)
3. I have waited for over a week before having an assault charge investigated that resulted in me being off work for 9 days... and then when they did investigate it they rung the 2 accused up 2 days in advance and told them to get their story striaght and interviewed them together
4. I have been told to 'not worry about it' when my (then young) sister was babysitting in a house along with a small child and saw someone prowling round the house. police rung... they too busy. it turned out the prowler went away on his own but who knows.

respect for cops? Bleh.. And they already proved to me at least they dont have any interest in my safety or the safety of my family. Ill look after my own and they can all go fuck themselves.

Fair enough if they're guilty, no argument. (Even though you misquoted me.)

I have had my current ride for well over two years and not had even a parking ticket on it. I guess it's the luck of the draw and the joy of living in a low cop-per-k area. My previous bike (owned in a large city) got all sorts of attention and I was ticketed for the most minor infringements, one of them I still feel was unjustified. (That guy had an attitude.) All the rest were technically correct, so no argument there either. I was also amazed at the lengths some cops go to when they feel the need to ticket someone for the most trvial transgression.

Still, that's their job....the job they chose.

The difference is that I expect and deserve to be treated with a little respect, at least enough to be shown some common courtesy, and be treated fairly by those who represent Her Majesty.

No, I'll leave the whaaaambulance to posters on KB, they're pretty good at screaming for it.

And don't YOU go crying when your fellow riders get dissed on an internet forum:devil2:

Check out staff aren't sworn servants of Her Majesty's government. Once upon a time the selection criteria for police officers was set at a different standard to that of check out staff. I guess they all use the same yardstick now.

Like there are good and bad people, since the police are just people, there are good and bad cops. That assertion requires the premise that they're a random cross-section of the community. They're not. They're specifically chosen for being self-righteous sanctimonious bastards, weeding out anyone capable of independant thought, although some do sneak in. Both have their merits but also their pitfalls.
