So I'm looking at making up some LED lights, want em custom fitting in with other bits so need to do the covers too. Anyone know what the regs are for this? I recall something about needing the right numbers on headlight lenses or something, I'm hoping brake lights and indicators are all good as long as the light output is good also...

If the vehicle has been vinned you can use any lights you like that are the correct colour, and suitably bright.

But for vinning it needs to be magic and have the special incantation on it.

Basically, nowadays any lighting fixtures on a vehicle have to be marked with the appropriate "E" mark, unless they are the original fixtures and were made before the E marking became prevalent.
In practice however, it depends where you go. My front confirminators have the requisite E-mark, but are in fact illegal. My WOF guy knows this, and knows that I know he knows it, but doesn't care as long as the bike is safe. He also knows that I am aware that the front confirminators are not as visible from some angles as the law requires, and make allowances for this shortcoming when riding.
