WOOT! :woohoo: After 20 years of the little blue licence, I have finally managed to graduate to an F. (First time I've been happy getting an F after a test!)

I had the nice (male) tester at the 5xRoads AA and he put me at ease right from the beginning saying "if you don't hit anyone and you don't fall off you should pass".

We rode around the surrounding streets a little, going through some give way signs and stopping at some stop signs. Pretty much a repeat of the restricted test.

The next part of the test, "hazard identification", was a bit of a joke. Pulled up at a crossroads, he got out and stood near the intersection. Got me to ride up and down the intersection 3 times doing right hand turns followed by u-turns, and then tell him what hazards I had seen, which totalled 2... him standing at the intersection and a postie on his motorbike.

Last part was out on the open road, headed off down Morrinsville Road, up Matangi Rd to the old folks home, u-turn, back down to Morrinsville, up to Ruakura then back to the AA.

No worries, no comments, no suggestions. I really should have done this 18 years ago!

Now.... bike shopping!!!

Weeeeelllll, there is this nifty looking SV650 at Boyd's. Although it got a bit of a bum review in a comparison with a GSX650 that I remember reading not so long ago ;)

Also I think it will take my partner a bit of convincing to fork out that much when we have a baby on the way. I'm pretty sure it will be a SV but probably a 2001ish model and from a private sale. Might have to wait until after our impending move to Welli.

I've never ridden anything bigger than a 250 so figuring a 650 should fit me well enough for a fair while into the future. Although being 50cc over the new rego limit is a bit stupid. Just read such good things about the SV generally.

SV is a good bike. Lots of fun, at legal speeds. Like every bike there are things people say are shite on it and have to be changed. But I rode my one stock for years and loved it. I miss the v twin :(

Congrats by the way, on the license and the baby!

Boyds have an SV650S which has had the front forks done already! AND it has a Two Brothers can on it...:innocent:

Yep - dat's de one. It is actually a K7 but wasn't registered until Mar 08.

The Two Bros cans sound very nice on the SV's...quite legal as well...

Yep. That's the one I was talking about. Except I read this thread on kiwibiker about how the old, sorry - former ;) owner rode a GSXR600 and then he felt like the SV-S was a pokey old lawnmower, or some such.

Sounds like bullshit to me... :innocent: Where could anyone get such a crazy idea? (cough cough cough)...

I actually really liked that bike...until the bloody vixen came along...

I kinda still miss that V-Twin sound TBH...mind you, the insane soprano banshee scream of a gixxer sixxer at 16,000rpm is also something to be reckoned with...

Truth be told, I'd snap that bike up in a second if I could afford it. I'm more likely to be looking at a 2001/2002 model at about half the price. Maybe I'll be hitting up mikemike for a loan sooner than I thought. :)

A 650 has got to be sfaer than a 250 for carrying a baby on - right guys? :shit:

I used to cart my five year old son round on the back of a 250...he fell asleep on there once...riding from Kaiapoi to Christchurch...
