Michelin Power One

I'm about to try a Michelin Power One V front and a 180/55 B rear race compund tomorrow on my 998.
The Power One web site says 2.1 front and 1.5 bar rear, but doesn't say if this is hot or cold...

Does anyonw know what hot pressures I should start with?

Cold. I know it sounds very low but I gave them a nudge the last time I rode my bike and was quite impressed with them. Also I found the front takes a while to get used to as it gave my bike a very slight wobble mid turn, changed the set up wobble went away and also went 1.5 seconds a lap slower so I put up with the wobble. Hope this helps.

mint tires to I love them they have a very steep profile so turn very fast and fell like they are dropping over at first,

I run 32 psi hot front 28 psi hot rear

Yep, pressures are set cold.
re take them as soon as you come in from a session and work from there.
I run the 'V' front an awesome tyre, gives a bigger contact patch at max lean with the small pay off of a little liveliness on the gas at higher speeds.
I run a 120psi at 31 cold and a 190 at 27psi cold.

I use power ones on my gsxr600 racer, they are most excellent and seem to be lasting ages. See Nic at NV motorcycles in morrinsville, he has excellent prices and is happy to send them to where ever you are in the country.:yes:

would anyone be willing to tell how much they paid? The cycletreads website shows $339 for the 150/60 B compound rear that i want. Do they come down much if you ring up and haggle?

I tried the PowerOne at Taupo and Manfiled over the weekend, without any dramas.

The V profile front worked really well at Taupo around the twisty bits.
I didn't experience the 'fall' into the corner on the 998 and mid corner was a stable as before, but the bike flicked left to right with less effort with more grip that I could use.

The V front was definitely more unstable on the gas, especially at Manfeild, accelerating out of Higgins into the back straight. But nothing too bad.
Choosing a 'B' compound in the front would probably make more sense at Manfeild, as that would probably be more stable under braking.

The PowerOne rear had impressive grip, I had to relearn the level of grip I had with the B compound 180/55.

I was running Continental Medium 190/55 before the Power One's and while the Contis give plenty of feedback and good wear, the available grip is quite poor, compared to the Power One.
If that has to do with the Conti rubber being a 2007 vintage, I don't know, but that was what was sold to me and that is what I have to compare against.

The PowerOne seems to heat up very quickly as well. I forgot to put the warmers on before one race at Taupo, so they only had 5 minutes on the warmers. But one fast but smooth warmup lap was enough to get them sticky again.

It was interesting to see how different the wear patter was between Taupo and Manfeild.

I think a set is about $600-ish.

No worries mate! :)

Usually I unplug the warmers over an extended break (lunch brake).
The warmers I'm using are really hot so instead of cooking the rubber I just let them rest them a bit.
But then I need to remember to turn them on again...
