View Full Version : Want a Classic?

Right - one of those crossroads in life is rapidly approaching and time to make some tough calls. I'm feeling sick about it so be prepared for me to scream like a girl and change my mind, kinda depends on the next week or so if everything lines up.

End of the day. There are two very nice classics in my shed not getting used and costing money. Both currently rego / wof etc but the Guzzi (mk2 lemans) needs a little work (service and new UJ) and the Triumph (1970 TR6C) needs a service. Both are as clean and tidy as a well used classic can be but the triumph is NOT collectable as it has a 67 engine. I'm prepared to let them go fully ready but I would recommend any new owner spends a day with me going over the basics.

Both have had an unreasonable amount of cash spent on them and come with an utter shitload of spares as i was intending to keep them forever.

At this point I can't see any realistic solutions to the problems confronting us so I'm reasonably serious BUT I'm not giving them away. I'll just de reg em and leave em to rot in the corner if needs be.

So at this "crossroads" would it be better if the bikes were worth lots of money or very little money.

Don't know what your specific crossroad is - if its a need for liquid cash then obviously the more the better - but if its divorce settlement surely the less they are worth the better?

Divorce? God no... Vicki would kill me ;-)

Shit man, tomorrows our 30th anniversary, I'm certainly not getting divorced.

Cashflow? Nope... Not that, just cold hard reality... Look, shitty things happen and I can hang onto these things selfishly OR two really nice bikes can go to someone that will ride them. Its all up in the air at the moment but I'm not discussing it here.

I just want to know if someone wants a nice classic at a reasonable price (negotiable on who btw)

Oh man, you must have been thinking of things too deeply.
You'll regret selling the Mk2, Paul !!

Oh you poor bastard, I imagine there were more than a few anxious moments and hovering over the "post" button before this went up.

I'd give my right nut for the MK II but alas, I think you'd rather trade in cash which I sadly have none of.

You poor bastard............

Oh you poor bastard, .

Mate - its been a rough couple of weeks (relatively speaking) and yes - I'm still wondering about pushing send. If I can find a good home for them well and good but this week will tell...

Well I sincerely doubt there's a better home than where they currently reside, I hope the week pans out well and it traspires that you're able to keep them. If that turns out not to be the case, I'll be looking VERY hard at the budget and lodging my application for ownership approval.

Think like a collector and not a rider then Paul. The Guzzi will probably fetch a good bit more in a few years. If you don't need the money then throw a cover over it and think of it as a term deposit because nice clean and fairly original classic bikes like that are better than a term deposit and the bastards don't tax you on them like the evil banks.

I'm really a bit saddened to read your post- those bikes are like the sons you never had. And without your help in the beginning, and the understanding ear you have lent me over the years preceeding...I dunno how much more mischief and butchery I would have got into without you steering me straight.
What am I gonna do now?
:baby:

If I said I really liked the Trumpie, would the price double?:killingme
