Im sure there is one or 2...
The point of this is to see who we think has a degree of integrity, not to slag them because of Party affiliations or sexual preferences .
Who do you trust on a moral level?

Ill nail my colours to the post first.....
Jim Anderton

I 2nd Jim Anderton, probably the most experienced politician we have at the moment...and the most hard working, integrity etc.

Despite my personal views, I was ended up voting for Sue Bradford at the last election - I was in direct opposition to the anti smacking bill, but I wouldn't vote labour and I thought National would be too harsh on the poor with the given economic conditions.

As it turns out I'm doing very well thanks to Mr Key and my conscience is clear.

I would have preferred to vote for another Green's candidate but as the question is about "integrity and moral fortitude" you can't deny Sue has it in spades.

And yes I know a vote for the Greens was a vote for labour but it was a vote for the lesser evil.

....the mere fact that one aspires to be a politician should be a warning sign to all...never met a polly that has ideals that can be lived up to....whether its through just being chewed up by the machine or because they tire, weaken..take the easy way...i was naive enough once to trust the ones you liked....til they turn ...stab their constituents in the back...rather cynical , but thats what lots of years of observing them does to you....and like motorcyclists....its the percentage of arseholes in parliament who paint the negative pictures....there is also a huge difference between being a good politician and being a good statesman....we are severely lacking in those these days....used to like Jim....

Politicians with integrity & moral fortitude...

Shouldn't this be in jokes and humour?

Can't think of any off hand.
Didn't Mark Twain say something along the lines of "All those who want to be politicians shouldn't be".

Yeah Bradford had integrity can't deny that.... Just a pity about her policy direction.
But I think her boss Jennette Fitzimonds is higher up there in the integrity stakes along with Anderton and Ron Marks.

Utterly no one in the ACT party would qualify as having any integrity though.

Guess Nandor should have stayed in then as all he wanted to do was get the hell out of there!

Bill English. Phil Goff. Yes, Sue Bradford. And Nandor. There are others, in fact I probably find it easier to pick the MPs I don't like.

This is NZ. Slightly larger than Sydney. We don't have a lot of ego driven politicians, nor do we have corrupt greedy ones. We are too small and the takings aren't large enough. Yes I know people will scream with rage about bottles of wine and overseas trips but compared with many developed nations, our pollies are amateurs.

Has there been one since Norman Kirk?

Edit: David Lange I suppose.

Agreed. Along with John Marshall, Simon Upton, Marilyn Waring, crikey I need a list of 70s and 80s MPs, can't be bothered. :sunny:

Made drugs his crusade after losing a daughter to suicide. Peter Dunn co jockeys the same wagon but for good christian sensibilities.

What about the other end of the scale, MP's like Chris Carter. He is a westie I suppose, should write him in to Outrages Fortune.

I'm not taking the piss here, but you don't have to be an MP to crusade against drugs or suicide.

He is the longest serving MP and I am struggling to remember anything he's actually done.

Wasn't Kiwibank his baby?

Wasn't Kiwibank his baby?

Yes it was.

But I'm not sure it's a notable achievement for all those years on the public teat.
Kiwibank was/is more a political statement about sovereignty (or xenophobia depending on your side of the argument) than it was a necessity in banking terms.

The irony was that it is the Aussie Banks we have to thank for our relatively stable banking sector through this recession...

So no, I don't think Kiwibank qualifies Jim as a Politician with integrity and moral fortitude.

Do you vote?Yes, I do. I believe you don't have the right to complain about their actions if you don't participate in the process. I assume this is what you were getting at? It's a matter of picking the ones I think are lying less than the others.

Must be a reflection on society I reckon, maybe its because the voters often lack in integrity & moral fortitude which requires strength of character & a willingnes to look into oneself.....much easir to remain indifferent & ignorant & get all wound up & whinge about some minor topic that the medias wound up all out of proportion.

FQ...the "us "comment was a tongue in cheek thing,a little like "he who has not sinned, cast the first stone"
I must thank the Rev. Storkey for the seeming impact he made to my tender adolescent :shit:....MIND lol
He got across the Morals of religion, minus the dogma & schism.
I'll Never forget morning prayers, he leading us in a spray of spittle.....

I got sent to Sunday School with money for the donation plate but went to the dairy instead and spent the money on a 50c mixture and then went home at the appropriate time. It was a good scheme until I got found out and then never got sent to Sunday School again. Bugger, I used to look forward to it!
