View Full Version : Canterbury: Magpie Madness Rally 2010 (19-21 Nov)

right...
well it appears that I am now entitled to a night off child duties, so my night off is going to involve going to a rally! yee ferkin ha!
but just in case I have to make a mad dash home due to the childminder being pretty bloody average, I cant go too far away. Not sure what he would do if I was too blotto to ride home though, guess he would just have to manage eh??!
so the usual is we meet on the saturday at the yaldie pub carpark about 8.30, leave 9ish and heading inland to darfield-Mayfield-lunch at geraldine (often meeting with others there) before heading the the rally site.
so whos up for it??

Hope your lucky, I got mine back the other day, and its only because my parts were ordered back in April after the stuffing around we had on parts from the supplier last time, they claimed some parts were on back order when they had them sitting there, and the parts they claimed we ready were on back order, it was a nightmare.
We knew there was about a six week lead time from Italy, but some of the claimed delays were ridiculous.

well another rally bites the dust. Fine on the ride down till a little after Glentunnel, then the misty rain set in for abit. Rally site was still dry so we set up in time to have dry tents and have a bit of a walk around. Just a bit of occasional drizzle at first then it kinda set in for a few hours.
Lil'm did her very best and managed to get us a firedrum so us hardy biker chicks got a FANTASTIC fire going after exploring the forest for some fuel and then bribing the trailer guys to bring us some wood... bit slow but they did eventually.
After the fire was well alight it was decided that we needed some shots to get things moving again. The Ducati bar was setup: tequila, Glayva, Baileys & cointreau, Ameretto, lots to choose from
So apart from the sucky drizzle during the day/evening I had a great time. Luckily it stopped in time for us to get up and dance till the early hours, enjoyed that last band, man they really worked well together!
Breakie at the checkered flag this morning and then home in the sunshine... think i need a sleep now

Anyone bump into 98TLS (Mike) at the rally? He left yesterday afternoon from Oamaru and hasnt been heard from since,he said he would be back early as a few of us were going to go fishing and as its now 5 people are starting to get a little concerned not least of all his partner who suggested i post up on here to see if he mentioned going for a ride after the rally.
Sorry to hear this...we were looking out for him but our group never saw him...hope someone will be along soon with more positive info
Please please keep us informed

Will do,his other 1/2 Vicky just said that if you didnt se him at the rally she doubts he went but just carried on as he mentioned that it would be good to catch up with Darryl and his Mrs.No doubt he is on his way home from Nelson or somewhere similar. He will probably wish he had stayed there when he gets home as a few family members will have something to say.

Thanks,as you say he has probably just carried on then,we are betting the west coast as he loves riding over there and has some mates in Westport that combined with some bottles of Tequila in his bags and the fact he hasnt been away on his bike for some time could be the answer though the thing is as Vicky says he always rings home to let her know where he is headed. She is trying to get hold of someone over there to see if hes been there.

Great :scooter to the rally. Left Alexandra with Shrek and we parted company at Cromwell. Rode the rest of the way on my own with a little stop at Omarama for fuel and food then on the rest of the way (petrol station to petrol station) with nice weather and no hassles.
Got to the site in time to set up tent and had just finished putting in the last peg when Shrek arrived, I was camped in the wrong swamp  (silly me not knowing which two trees will bear the weight of the hammock) Tent was promptly picked up by my knight in shining armour and deposited in the correct spot
Met lots of people and had a good time even though the weather was a little damp.
Went into Ashvegas on Sat morning and had Breakfast/lunch on the way back at the checkered flag. :2thumbsup
Rode home today and stopped at lake Opua for lunch :sunny: dasy and great riding then just as we packed up the lunch the rain came down. I didn't melt but after that the wind picked up and the rest of the ride home was slow .... in some cases I couldn't get over 70kms. very tiring indeed. Even so got home safe and sound if not a little :zzzz: By far the longest ride I have done on the Hobbit bike. I still think it should have won :first: in the bike show....:innocent: but I am a little biased.
