That's (very roughly) three tickets every two days ... so much for the fine upholders of our speeding laws ... don't they know "speed kills" ... and next time one of them nuts off at me about dangerous speeds I might just ask him when was the last time s/he got a speeding ticket in a company car

And revenue collecting on their own !!!!!

When attending a priority job, cops often exceed the posted speed limit past speed cameras. They then have to advise comms straight afterward that the speed camera might have gone off so comms can put a note in the job.

Those waived tickets means a three cops are caught for speeding every two days ...

It's possible that some of those waived tickets were for speeding in the ine of duty - such as chasing cars, responding to a crime or other justified ones .. but with 1200 tickets issued in five years, that's a lot of our cops breaking the law ... very bad look when they are pinging us all the time ...

3 cops every two days, out of 10,000 plus cops.... Looks quite low, really. 1200 in 5 years....

Wonder what the motorbike riders figures look like..........

Doesn't matter, motorcyclists are not upholders of the law. It's like my doctor telling me to give up smoking while he smokes himself. Funny, I've not seen a doctor that smokes in years. I guess they know that smoking kills...

This is true...

Was more of a pot calling kettle black type of thing....

Guess that can be both ways...?

Or are educated.......

Most people know that smoking kills, educated or not. However, most educated people understand that speed by itself doesn't kill. It's like stating 'Apples Kill'. Sure, if I pour 100,000 of them over you...

Much more important than the fines... that was the newest picture of a cop car they could find?

I appreciate what you are saying. However, a pot and a kettle are pretty much the same thing. A police officer and a civilian, now they are two separate things altogether.

That's funny, but doesn't seem like a very serious issue to me (low rates).

Yes it is important for the Police to be seen doing it better than everyone else. I also have to accept humans make mistakes.

I reckon they should only waived the tickets If the red & blue lights are flashing...otherwise Hang em...Hang em high!

Cool! So the next time I get pulled over I'll just mention what you have typed up and see how I go

What most have failed to notice was that it says police vehicles, dosn't say which vehicles or who was driving.

Just make sure you pay the ticket like the 1251 Police issued tickets did ... unless of course you got issued the ticket while trying to preserve human life, avoiding injury to yourself or others, or damage to property (which the Land Transport Rule 2004 allows you to do).

The bike rider figures would look horrendous compared to that .. that would be bikerrs per day ...

But that's not the point ..we don't abuse people for speeding ... we don't nut off at bikers who "ride too fast" (well, Katman does - but he's strange ) ... we don't hold ourselves up as the arbitors of behaviour on the road ...

It looks like a case of "Do as I say not do as I do ... "

If the people policing our road laws can't stick to thee road rules, then they have no basis to nut off at is ...

Yes we are - its called individual responsibility to live within the law like any citizen.

As far as the police go, it is good to see any unjustified speed is dealt with in the same manner as any other road user. It is also an employment matter for them as it would be a code of conduct issue, especially in a work car. Hardly the right image to send to the public.

Good to see public accountablility. Something the govt MPs could learn from.

Wow, you've got baggage.

 Only what will fit in a Ventura Bag ...

But my gawd you people junmp to massive conclusions ...

What baggage ? Just 'cause I think that the upholders of the law should set the example - especially as Police bosses are on TV at least once a week pushing the "speed kills" message in some form or other ... while the blue line at the coal face have a tendency to nut off at bikers breaking the speed limit ?

Blue & Red Flashing Lights, waived tickets are those where the officers were operating the vehicle at speed by law.

Everyone makes mistakes, if you make the mistake you pay Police or Civilian, Remember police often get it a LOT worse in court..

Just as a comparison then how many tickets for Joe Public get waived?

onearmedbandit
4th November 2010, 17:43
What we don't know is, how many of the police prosecuted are those that don't believe that a little bit of speeding, in the right place and the right time, harms anyone, thereby getting nicked themselves. Probably the same ones who also let us off with a warning or a flash of the lights.

Completely agree, if the lights ain't on then they haven't "taken all practicable steps" to mitigate the risks of their speeding.

OF course i dont have the numbers...but my suspicion is its not 60%of all tickets like in this case.

(i admit the article is stupid and sensationalist at best...if the writer did proper research we would have known if those waived tickets are due to being "in action" or just waived because "strings were pulled"...but we dont know so no point arguing about it)

those other 1200 tickets dont bother me as much because the "offenders" likely had to pay them just like i do... unless there is some kind of discount you guys get :D

Probably in the vicinity of high 100's of thousands?

edit: On reading some stats more like in the millions...
