Front tyre is cracking on tyre pattern, is this OK?
Just a bit concerned that if I lean hard the edge of the tyre will rip off... paranoid?
Time for shoe polish in the cracks?
I do mainly commuting 60-100kmh, not much fanging.

throw that away, thats a split not a crack IMO
I would also query what pressure you are running in your tyre
appear to have been on the low side due to the tyre wear shown in pis

I'd be replacing it, but that's just me.
How old is the tyre? There'll be a 4 digit number which will tell you the week and year of manufacture.
Pic = week 19 + year 08

Chuck it. I also would be interested in how old the tyre is? And what brand. Seems it will be old and an uncommon brand.

Look at the markings on the side of the tyre. If it is more than 7 years old I would definitely replace it.

OK cheers, tyre was 1003 so Oct 2003... Tyre was a Dunlop Rideen.
But I solved the 'chuck it or not' question - canvas is starting to come through on the center of the rear.
Found that out after fanging it down the Devil's Staircase yesterday... Lucky it held together!
Sweet going to treat myself to some BT016s I think... hear they're are hit shot tyres.
Thanks KBers

1003 would make it March 03.
BT-016's are shit hot and I'm sure you'll like them. Cycletreads have them on special at the moment:yes:

What the fuck were you doing "fanging" anywhere with a split front tyre and a rear down to the canvas?
Are you Queenstown's village idiot?
