Engine cut out at an idle.

The GB500 had been running fine for about two hours on Sunday. I stopped to allow oncoming traffic to pass before turning. The engine cut out as I pulled up. It wouldn't fire up at all. Let it cool for a while then tried again. It seemed to want to fire but would not catch. The second time in over 40 years I've had to trailer a bike home. There had not been any surging or erratic engine running prior to it cutting out so I had assumed it was not petrol. Petrol flows from the fuel tap, haven't gone any further down that trail yet.

The plug has a weakish but consistant spark. If it has spark then surely it wont be electrical? I will try a new plug tomorrow

What do you think? Fuel or electrical?

This happened once before but fired up almost straight away.

The GB is very fussy on valve clearances . Did you adjust them at all prior to this event ? .
If not then is it time they were done anyway ?

I think you are right. I've done about 3,000ks since buying the bike and a previous owner had told me that it was probably due for the valve clearances to be done. Thanks,

Weak spark, could mean the coil is poked

Hi AWA, still having trouble with it. As I suggested with Trina's bike it could possibly be bad earth (hers was bad connection from +ve battery terminal. This meant it ran on battery only and wasnt charging so battery ran down and bike and electrics stopped. Battery recharged after sitting for a while and would go again but not for long.
