I have been thinking, which is never a good thing seeing as I haven't finished my bucket racer yet, about taking the TZR 1KT engine I have sitting downstairs and making a motard around it.
I don't really know the best frame to get it fitted into(probably by cycleworks) and I assume any frame will have to have the engine cradle re designed.
My thoughts at the moment are putting it into a WR450 rolling chassis and converting it to a motard from there as they are easily road legalable.
But then again I know next to nothing about motards.
Any thoughts on my plans?
Cheers

So you're building a modern day TDR250 motard? cool - remember the cost of all that work might just make it cheaper to buy one!

Essentially yes. It will be a TDR 250 with 17" wheels, good suspension and brakes. And it will look better.
I was having a good chat to Damon out at cycleworks and he is keen on it. Will probably end up being about $3000 of mounting and pipes. He said to get the ports smoothed, head re-shaped, and then he will make some pipes for a good power spread especially down low rather than any sort of power.
Then get an Ignitech ignition so I can adjust the powervalves throughout the range and keep it on the pipes.
Go with low gearing compared to the TZR. I want it to be able to get that front wheel off the ground. Of course I would never be able to test that because that would be dangerous driving.:innocent:
And it would definitely be cheaper to buy one, but it wouldn't be as awesome. :D
