My bike's been making this ticking sound for the last couple of weeks, and I've just found out that it's because there's a gaping hole in one of my exhaust headers. Can these normally have a patch welded over them, or do the headers need to be replaced?
Cheers.

Here's a pic of it.

That's fucked sunshine.

No way you're welding anything to that rusty piece of shit. Best just come trade it on a DR-Z400SM.

Those headers are toast, way too much rust for a successful repair job

They look fucked.

Depending on the surrounding area of the hole, you might be able to tig weld a patch on to get you by.

Go directly to the dairy and buy one of those custard pies you're so fond of...

Eat the pie... (Like you could resist)

Wrap the foil pie holder around the pipe, then tie it up with some bailing wire...

Yar... Quality repair she be... Yar... What ? Ye gets a pie and yer exhaust fixed.

A good welder cn fix anything, except the crack of dawn, and a broken heart.... It depends on what the surrounding pipe is like. You should be able to get it patched, but if the surround ing metal is to thin, then it may not last.
A better option would be to go to Cycleworks, and get them to make a new header pipe or section of the pipe.

Yeah i've seen this silver 636 sitting around outside our house a bit lately.. I'm sure whoever owns that wouldn't notice a missing set of headers.
