Nothin' quite like the feel of new tyres on the boike (apart from the pain in the bank account of course...)

The smooth, progressive transition from one side to t'other - riding a round profile instead of one that is slightly square...noice.

And they seem to hang on just as well as the old ones too - sometimes I seriously wonder about this "scrubbing in" racket. They did nothing untoward on the trip home from the shop...(130km later - direct route is 11 km...)

I always wonder about taking things easy - it always feels like there was nothing wrong in the first place and one could have fanged it hard. But that's when the fun starts (or finishes!).

Is that the longest ride home?

What did you get in the end.

It's good to take it easy on mew tyres and progressively get into the corners just because the bike will handle differently right from the start as you were previously used to the worn tyres.

Probably had longer rides home...I like to take the "scenic" route...

I got the Bridgestones again - 016's. Cycletreads made me an offer I could not refuse...

Besides which I quite liked them after a while. If it ain't broke, why fix it?

In fact it felt more different at low speeds than on the highway...

I've dropped my bike on new tires, had a cop fly through an intersectiong and thats when I stopped thinking repeatedly in my head 'new tires, new tires...'

Gutted front slipped out like I was on diesel.

I do love the feel once they're scrubbed in being the right shape. Now I scrubb the edges with a 2nd cut flat file.

I just got some new ones fitted on Friday and I have to say, wow. What a difference....only had the budget models the bike came with and now, wow. I love them, now I just need some time to go out and get in touch more.

Haha, currently I seem to be replacing my tyres every couple of months. No tyre is on long enough to get used to it being new or worn :D

It often feels like there's nothing wrong................until it goes wrong:facepalm:

After dropping my BRAND NEW zx6r on unscrubbed tyres, my respect for new ones is "healthy"!!

I took it a little easier this morning 'cause it was drizzly after a longish dry spell...no drama though despite all that road spooge...

Just put on some Dunnie Sportmax Q2s. They're very good indeed. Soon as I'd scrubbed em in, was taking 45kmh corners at 50! Yee ha

I was tempted to try those, but I still remember my last set of Bridgestones with less than fond memories. As for the "if it aint broke" thing, after having many sets of Avons, and despite really loving the Storms, I decided to have a change, and got my first Michelin ever today. The front Storm's barely scrubbed in, so I left it on there. If it goes the way of the last one, it'll be stuffed before the rear one's half worn, so maybe another Michelin...?

I like Michelins too. But there were no front Pilot Powers in the country...lotsa rears, no fronts. I guess you could ride permanently on the back wheel..?

Unless ya have an odd size, Drury Performance had a few 120 70R17 2ct Powers in stock... But a bit too late for that info I feel...

Finally had the ST back on the road yesterday. Its been sitting in the garage with new tyres for two months. I had to forcably remind myself that the tyres needed to be scrubbed in.

Like others I know too many bikers who have failed the take it easy test the hard way.

But yeah don't new tyres feel good.

Thanks anyway boman...very happy with the 016's but I might try the PP's next time. At the rate the km's are clocking up, it might not be that long...

The manufacturers sometimes spray the tyres with a release agent to make them easier to get out of the mould and they don't always do a very good job of cleaning the chemical off. Silicone doesn't have a very high coefficient of friction. I saw a guy drop a Blackbird on the first corner he came to on new tyres, and he was being very careful.
